My baby’s 20 week scan, I noticed on the report that baby’s femur was 30mm and right at the end of the scale ( for small- it doesn’t say what centile this is ) - they weren’t concerned at my 20 week scan, I just saw on my report and then I googled and it mentioned that short femur is a soft marker for syndromes.

Has anyone had this and the outcome was ok?

From my understanding the scale is within what is normal, so even being at the lower end is fine within the scale. If there was any concern you would have been told at the scan

I was in the same boat as you where I was worried my baby's femur was a bit short as the percentile was lower. At a 35 week scan the length had caught up a lot and was exactly 50th percentile, so try not to worry.

Had this worry with both boys and actually even had my sister pregnant at the same time and her babies femur was way bigger. I got stressed and over googled and it was just not worth the stress baby boys are fine. Any syndrome would have likely been picked up on scans. Best of luck with your pregnancy x

I had this with my oldest daughter. Big belly, normal sized head and femurs very short.

like you said, sonographer didn’t mention it but I saw on report measurements, googled it and got myself in a state.

she is now 9 years old and is just extremely petite in size, always been one of the shortest in her class! I guess it’s just the size she was destined to be!

did you have the downs screening done? If you did I really wouldn’t worry, although I know that’s easier said than done x

Try not to worry, and definitely stay clear of Dr Google. The sonographer would have flagged anything of concern.

My baby had a short femur and they were concerned so I had a whole bunch of extra scans, Dopplers, blood test etc. I read a lot about chances for Downs etc.

Baby was born absolutely fine, just on 3rd centile. She's now nearly 6 months old and is on the 75th. They were overly cautious with my pregnancy because they have to be, so if they haven't flagged it as a concern, then I'd try not to overthink it. It's a scale of what's normal, and there has to be a baby at the smallest end.

It’s a bit different but we had small abdominal measurement right up until last growth scan at about 34 weeks. This was officially small too. My daughter was born healthy as anything and now a 5 month old chubby little thing. Try not to fret!

I had this with my son, head and abdomen around or just over the middle, femurs short (but not short enough to be concerning). It was odd as I have quite long legs and dad is tall. But my son (now 2) is fine, he is just not the tallest child and based on his clothes I think his legs are a bit shorter than average.
