Hi,

I've been prescribed phenoxymethylpenicillin due to swollen tonsils after a sore throat and just wondered if anyone else has used this in early pregnancy? I'm around 7 weeks.

The Dr has said it's safe to use in pregnancy but I'm feeling a bit anxious about starting the medication just in case.

Thanks

Yes I've had this in pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding with no ill effects on baby. The Dr would not wish to prescribe anything that is not safe in pregnancy unless there was no alternative for whatever condition you presented with. This would also be discussed with you.

The doctor and the pharmacist will advise you much better than unqualified people on the internet.

There three types of drugs:
-drugs where we have evidence they are safe in pregnancy
-drugs where we have evidence they are not safe in pregnancy
-drugs where we have no evidence either way

Ask your doctor.

Hi,

Congrats :)
This medication is not known to be harmful in pregnancy.
