Exhausted of brown bleeding

Hi mamas,
I’m looking for some similar stories and a bit of reassurance.
I’m 14w with twins. At 12w I had a bright red bleed which turned to brown the next day. Everything seems fine with my babies but the brown bleeding doesn’t want to stop!
Sometimes is a lot, sometimes clots sometimes is just a bit of spotting but is always there every trip to bathroom every wipe😞
Honestly I don’t know what to think about it anymore! Will it ever stop? Will it cause complications later on?
I’m getting my hopes up every time it stops for half a day but then comes back with revenge!

EPU is so dismissive as well, I called a few days after my 12w scan which happened at around 13w to report the constant brown bleed and they refused to see me as my scan was good a few days back?!?!
ive been having private scans to ease my mind but they always say that they can’t find anything worth to be referred to hospital!
But the bleed is still there and I’m so scared at this point.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about you bleeding experience. I know how upsetting it is every time you feel bleeding and wiping. With DC1 I had a bleed at exactly 12 weeks, then brown bleeding (mainly just on wiping) between 12-23 weeks. I usually had some brown spotting after every BM (sorry if TMI). The bleeding then just stopped by itself and I went on to have an uneventful rest of my pregnancy. I have no idea what caused the spotting and no one would investigate further as I didn’t have any pain. I would say keep pushing for answers & hopefully it will just resolve itself soon!

@Prettypennies thanks for sharing🫶🏻unfortunately what unsettles me the most are the gushes of brown bleed occasionally and then back to brown spotting! I’m glad everything turn out well for you and I really do hope the same happens with my case🤞🤞

I had this on and off with some pain/cramps from 5+4 to 14 weeks and a bit. I was so anxious and upset every time. I did have several scans but they never found a reason. It tailed off after 14 weeks. I'm now 35 weeks and haven't had any bleeding since then - hoping that will continue for these last few weeks.

Prettypennies · 22/01/2024 19:11

I am currently 8/9 weeks with brown gushes as well, so I’m hoping things will be ok. Fingers crossed it will stop for you soon!

My2boysaremyworld · 22/01/2024 19:43

Hi could it be from your cervix? I had this with my last pregnancy. I can't remember what it was called, sorry. I had bleeding from the neck of the womb xx

CB2805 · 22/01/2024 20:22

@MrsW9 I’m glad everything turn out well for you🫶🏻wish you a smooth birth🤞

@Prettypennies its so scary isn’t it? Did they found out what cause it?

@My2boysaremyworld im having my first visit with a consultant on wed so really really hope they will investigate further and potentially we find the cause of the bleeding. A small hematoma was found at early scans which it’s still visible but they don’t believe that’s what causing the bleeds?!?! Which is leaving me clueless

@CB2805 I hope you get the answers you need xx

I'm currently 16 weeks and have had this for the past few weeks, a mixture of sporadic bright red bleeds and continuous brown bleeding in between. Like you it can be anytbing from a drop to enough to fill a pad, it's mentally absolutely exhausting.

Have you had the position of your placenta checked? I've been told today that my placenta is low lying and is currently completely covering the neck of my womb which is more than likely causing the bleeding. It might be worth checking out as it's given me some peace of mind having an idea of the cause?

Keeping my fingers crossed it stops soon for you.

CB2805 · 22/01/2024 22:17

@LF02 im actually suspecting a low lying placenta with one of the twins. It was mentioned on my early scans when abroad doing IVF. But since coming back to UK on every scan I’m asking but they say placenta is posterior and seems fine?!?
im going for another scan tomorrow so will ask them to check again!
did they gave u any recommendations/ precautions for the low lying placenta?
I really hope the bleeds come to an end for both of us🤞🤞

Really hope you manage to get some more answers at the scan tomorrow 🤞🤞.

They just said no heavy lifting, minimise stretching, no exercise heavier than walking and rest as much as possible. They're going to continue to monitor to see if it moves as the womb stretches which will hopefully relieve the bleeding.

Flopsy145 · 28/01/2024 22:10

Could it be a subchronic hematoma?
I had a bright red bleed at 14 weeks and still having on and off brown spotting but from what I've read with others they have had constant spotting, it varies. Also apparently more common with IVF pregnancies. Essentially just an internal bruise that is often missed on scans. They aren't dangerous especially as you have had a scan since the bright red bleed, the brown blood is just old hematoma leaking out and will eventually stop.

CB2805 · 29/01/2024 02:02

@Flopsy145 i haven’t received a clear answer so far from medical experts. A small hematoma was spotted on one of the scans, but they believe can be either this or a low placenta.
the brown bleed started to fade the last couple of days so I’m hoping for the best🤞🫶🏻
