28 weeks - very tired. Is this normal?

Hi, I'm 28 weeks and struggling with tiredness/fatigue. I'm not sleeping well but in the daytime I'm exhausted (way more than from a bad night of sleep) just doing normal things e.g. I'll walk up the stairs and then have to sit down. Walk around house collecting washing, put machine on and I'm done in and need a little rest. I'm ok if I'm in the fresh air, walking dog so trying to get out, just struggling at home. I'm eating decent meals and taking pregnancy vitamins but wondering if I could be iron deficient? I'm got a 28 week midwife appointment/bloods this week but I'm worried as my fatigue doesn't seem normal in relation to my physical exertion! Anyone have experience of this. TIA

I got exhausted round this point to and turned out my iron was seriously low. 10 I think.

I had an infusion and felt better a few weeks later thankfully x

As above have your iron levels checked.I had been on iron through pregnancy as it was low before I fell pregnant but it dipped just few weeks ago (I’m 34 weeks today). Midwife app they checked levels and it was ok but the full count the GP tests shown I was low so have your GP do bloods too if antenatal one comes back ok.

Im nearly 26 weeks and feel the same! I need a nap during the day to fully function or i feel exhausted. Midwife said its normal?

Get iron AND ferritin levels checked (they aren't the same). My iron was normal but ferritin low at booking. I'm now 29 weeks so waiting for the results of my 28 week bloods, will be interesting to see if ferritin level has improved with tablets. I was so so SO exhausted in first trimester (which I know is pretty normal anyway) but it's definitely been better in the last few weeks.

I had and still have this to an extent (35 weeks pregnant) but I was super short of breath too, overall weakness etc and it was my iron, have been on tablets but not everyday as my midwife said your body only absorbs them every second day anyway and can cause constipation obviously, I do feel a little better but then getting close to the end of pregnancy those feelings are relatively normal for me anyway . Deffo get checked xx

Yes this happened to me turned out I was borderline anaemic and I’m on iron tablets now. They really made a difference to me - sleeping more normally and I’ve got some of my energy back. They will pick it up in the blood test if this is the case for you too but probably worth mentioning the fatigue to them as well. It’s very common for iron levels to drop as the pregnancy goes on.
