Obstetric appointment? (What is it?)

Hi Everyone,

I have an obstetric appointment this week, and I have no idea what they will do or what to expect.
I think its because of previous issues in a prior pregnancy.
Has anyone had an obstetric appointment and, if so, what do they actually do?
Thank you 😊

Obstetrician is a gyno that works with expectant mothers. Gynos do not specialise on pregnant people.
Midwifes are not actually doctors for example, they’re just midwifes. One can become a midwife if they’ve completed studies in nursery in less than 3 years. Without the nurse qualification they would need to study midwifery for 3 years, but that is not the same as being a doctor. They have nowhere near the education an obstetrician or a gynaecologist has.
the whole sector for studying female reproductive system to become a physician is OB/GYN the difference between these two doctors is that one specialises in non pregnant people and the other one specialises on pregnant people.
it’s like going to a gyno, but for pregnant ladies.

It will just be similar to a midwife appointment. Chat through the reason this pregnancy is slightly higher risk (as you said most likely due to issues in a previous pregnancy). Do the normal checks BP, urine etc. Then maybe listen to babies heart rate. Then chat through the plan for the rest of your pregnancy care.

If it's anything like the appointment I had last week it will be a bit of a non event! Blood pressure, urine and Carbon monoxide test by a nurse/midwife. Then called to talk with a consultant/doctor who went through a list of questions very similar to those asked at 1st midwife appointment: family history, general health etc. Explained I would gave growth scans from 32 weeks (I'm over 40) and sent us on our way. There was no monitoring done of baby. I assume had anything come up when answering the questions or I had any complications so far then these would have been addressed but it was all very quick and straightforward.
