Hey everyone

I live in the UK and I’m due first week of June.

Please could you share any advice on how many items of each age range did you buy/will be buying for the first 3 months or so.

Thank you

Ooh, congratulations!

I had a baby girl mid July and she was the first granddaughter so everyone went a bit barmy buying clothes! As it was, she had some beautiful summer dresses but only wore most of them once.

Do you know what you’re having? You probably will just want babygros initially. I know it’s a cliche but they really do grow out of them in no time at all. DD also had some pretty romper style clothes but that depends on the weather!

Im due 1st May. Ive made a pretty basics list to get us by incase we end up with too many baby clothes being gifted and if we dont and need more hubby can always pop to the shops. Remember things will also be getting washed.
This is my baby clothes/outfits list.

Clothes

Bought: -Pack of 5 Newborn (10lbs) -Pack of 5 1-2 months (11lbs)
  1. Baby Grows/Sleepsuits- 9/10
Bought: -2 X Pack of 3 Newborn Size (7lbs/7.5lbs) -Pack of 3 First Size (9lbs) -Pack of 3 0-3 Months (14lbs)

It depends how often you do your laundry really but I’d buy about 10 vests (plain white are good because if they stain you can soak them in Milton.
Then maybe six sleepsuits in newborn size. Or if you want them in day clothes, a couple of little soft outfits.
You’ll likely be given a few bits too.
You don’t need to go mad. You’ll have a better idea when they are here.

I’d maybe get a couple of things in the next size up from newborn in case you have a big baby. I made the mistake of buying everything 0-3 months for my first baby and it drowned him.
Second time round I was prepared with plenty of newborn things which I had to take back to the shop because he was a chunk!

Just placemarking on the thread as I'm due 1st June! Thanks for asking the same question I'd been wondering OP Smile

I think I got 10 sleepsuits and 10 vests (newborn poo can be quite leaky!)
I didn’t bother with newborn and went straight to ‘up to 1 month’ for longevity (DD was 9lb 7oz so probably wouldn’t have fit in newborn anyway!)
Didnt get any proper ‘outfits’ until she was in 0-3 months
I’d get a couple of the soft cotton hats in case baby has a bit of trouble regulating their temperature once born
Congratulations 💛

For the first few months, babies are usually a lot more comfortable in babygrows. I’m due my third in April and he will be wearing mostly babygrows and vests, maybe the occasional top and comfy leggings.

I plan to have 10 vests, 10 babygrows and around 5-10 outfits.

I had a baby late summer last year so buying the proper ‘summer’ stuff was a bit of a gamble and in the end up the heatwave fell just before she arrived then was gone after that. I’d say if I was due that early summer though I’d be relatively confident that I’d actually use them. It depends what you’re like though. It seems people are in two camps. You either just have the baby in a baby grow for the first 3 months or you want them to wear cute outfits. I was in the latter 🙈 I didn’t like the idea of my baby being out in pyjamas but obviously wanted her to be comfortable so I bought lots of little sets with leggings and long sleeved vest type bodysuits. I got a few from H&M so I felt like they were outfits but they were effectively pyjamas. I then got a handful of the proper summery clothes (shorts and tshirt/short sleeved bodysuit style things) which I barely used but I’d get more of them if I was due when you are. More vests than you can imagine (think I had 20 something 😅) and a mix of long and short babygrows for night time.

I went for up to 1 month in a lot of things this time from the start. I’d bear in mind that matalan is huge sizing so newborn is like 0-3 elsewhere. Next seems to be relatively small, lengthwise anyway

@florencesthoughts I really recommend Vinted for babies. There is so much on there that is worn once or new!

Re baby grows, John Lewis do excellent ones that are really cost effective - they come up big though - definitely buy newborn or baby will end up with 2 legs in one leg hole. I love the Mori ones but I did find they shrink a little on the wash. Zips over buttons in general, but a mix works.

Mine was 8lb born and newborn lasted just under 4 weeks before they started becoming a squeeze. I'm just buying as I go though. Bought 10 vests 10 baby grows and just put a wash on once a day which I was doing anyway. Lots of people bought clothes as gifts too. Bought loads with my first and she grew out of alot of them before I could even take the tags off.
