Maternity allowance + universal credits

Single mum, living with newborn- Has anyone experienced getting £0 universal credits whilst on maternity allowance?
wasn’t at my job long enough to receive stat pay so claiming allowance but now I’m not getting any UC, so I approx get £700 for the allowance, this ONLY covers my rent how am I supposed to pay my bills?
also if I were to quit my job and be entitled to more UC would I be able to claim despite making myself unemployed?

Honestly I don't see the point in maternity allowance when on universal credit. I'm self employed and use universal credit as back up when I struggle to make ends meet. It looks as tho any maternity allowance is deducted from your universal credit allowance as pay so really it's pointless, may as well just stick to universal credit reporting 0 earnings while on maternity leave. Hate the way they do it x

Thank you! I think I need to cancel my allowance claim as the entitled to website says I’ll be better off without it.. but I’m worried if I also have to quit my job to be able to have UC, would they not say I’ve made myself unemployed on purpose and not help me?
