Omeprazole in Pregnancy

Hi everyone

Has anyone got any advice on taking Omeprazole in pregnancy?

I’ve not taken any since I found out last week that I was pregnant but I physically cannot cope anymore. I’ve always been a heartburn sufferer but the past week or so it has been so, so, sooo bad. I can feel it in my stomach, my chest, my throat. The only thing that helps is an Omeprazole first thing in the morning but I’m just not 100% on taking it in pregnancy.

I’m literally only about 4w5d so yet to have an appointment with a midwife for advice. Google says there is minimal risk but I thought I would ask on here too for any advice.

Thank you!

I started on omeprazole when I was around 26 weeks pregnant last year. My midwife asked my consultant to prescribe it as my doctor wouldn't and my midwife was worried about my mental health as I couldn't eat because the reflux was so severe. My baby boy was born weighing 6 pound 7 and definitely keeps me on my toes as he's so lively and curious. I don't know what I would have done without omeprazole! Hope you feel better soon

Hi OP, I’m 27+1 and I take 20mg of omephrozole a day. I have done since 9 weeks and my gp offered me them at 6 weeks alongside anti sickness. Thankfully no ill effects and baby is doing well. I recommend taking them - heartburn and indigestion is a whole other level of uncomfortable. It made me miserable!

I know several people who have heartburn in pregnancy who are taking omeprazole.
But they are farther along, not sure if that makes any difference.

My consultant prescribed it in pregnancy. Its fine to take it. Congratulations on your pregnancy!
