6 weeks pregnant. Sudden faint positive

Please can some one offer some advice.

I'm 6w5d. I've already had a scan which showed I wasn't as far along as I should be (should be 9w5d), we did see a heart beat.

Since the scan. I've been using dip tests, just for piece of mind really.
Yesterday I had a really dark positive test.
This morning is incredibly faint in comparison.
I'm really freaking out.
Also, it seems so quick for the hcg to have dropped so suddenly.

Anyone had this happen before?

Waiting for a call back from EPU.

After a certain level they can start to get faint again, I think they call it the hook effect

CycleGirl20 · 11/01/2024 14:48

OP you can dilute the urine with water and test again to rule out the hook effect. It also happens when you max out the tests that you get variations in colour where some tests just have more dye in than others. That's not usually drastically different.

Sounds like you've done the right thing contacting the EPU. I hope all goes well for you OP

This happened to me at about 8 weeks. We ended up booking a private scan for piece of mind and all was fine, apparently completely normal for tests to be lighter. Smile

Have a scan booked at the hospital tomorrow. So will update then.

Thank you for all your advice.

Sorry you are having such a stressful pregnancy. A repeat scan is probably the only thing that will help clarify what is happening.

Mrsttcno1 · 12/01/2024 11:09

Hope the scan is okay OP. It may just be that your urine was more diluted yesterday compared to the day before. Fingers crossed for good news for you

Baby is fine. They said it could just be that my hcg levels are too high to register on tests now.

@EmmysMum30 hey - sorry to go on a tangent but I saw you're measuring behind. I'm measuring around 1.5-2 weeks behind and have a follow up scan on Monday - how is your growth tracking if you don't mind me asking?

Did they seem particularly worried about the difference in size at all? I can't decide if I have a hope of this turning out okay or not! Last scan I should have been 7.5-8 weeks and measured 6 with a HB..

EmmysMum30 · 24/01/2024 08:07

Hi! Sorry I've only just replied.

We are still measuring behind, but at the right rate of growth. We have another scan on Friday (they are keeping an eye on things). So will see again then.

Still feel pregnant, nausea is just horrendous. Have managed to avoid HG this time though.

Will update you when I can.

Sending lots of positivity your was. Xx

@EmmysMum30 ah that's great news, unfortunately mine wasn't a good outcome but wishing you all the best ❤️
