hi. i was just wondering if anyone would be able to help me? i have a midwife that should be calling me this week to book my first appointment but i am a bit stumped.
i got a positive test last week and the line came up instantly and very dark on the third day of my missed period. the first day of my last period was 6th of December and so my app is telling me that i am roughly 5 weeks. however, i have been experiencing bloating, sickness and weird moods for more than a month. i'm just not sure if i could be more than 5 weeks even though i still had a period.? on top of that, i look huge for 5 weeks and i have been getting consistent fluttering feelings . this is my first pregnancy and im just not sure what's going on so any help will be appreciated, thank you

It's not possible to say from a picture on the internet how many weeks pregnant you are. In your position you could book in for a private dating scan if you are able to afford one. If not, then tell your midwife that you've been having pregnancy symptoms for longer and see if she can examine you and/or book in for a scan asap to find out.

I think only a medical professional can help really. What's normal for you? I'm a tad overweight and carry weight in my tummy area so I always have that sort of bloat. I'm 5 weeks too. Last period 5th December. So I'm the same timeline as you. I feel bloated inside (although don't look any more than normal) .
Was it a normal period ?

DappledThings · 10/01/2024 15:45

Until you have a scan your LMP is the only thing anyone can go by.

When you have your first scan it might change your gestation and hence tour due date by a couple of days or possibly by a lot if what you think was your LMP was actually implantation bleeding. But basically you need to wait for your scan.

I don't think they'll scan you early, they will stick with LMP so scan around end of Feb but you could pay for a private one of you're worried.

Fluttering is probably gas!

How typical were your last few periods? I continued to bleed monthly for 2-3 months with both of my pregnancies. They were fairly normal 'periods' in terms of flow with clots / cramps and everything, possibly just a little shorter than normal. If it wasn't for the extreme sickness, I probably wouldn't have realised I was pregnant until 12 or even 16 weeks with my first!

hi, the period did seem shorter and lighter than usual however i didn't think much of it. i normally get really bad cramps but they weren't as bad but apart from that i thought it was okay. normally for me, in body, i am curvy but still have a flat stomach is that makes sense? like my hips are wide but my stomachs small so this is a lot bigger than it ever has been. and as for bloating, when i do bloat it's never like this. thank you x

Pregnancy bloating is very different! I was bigger at 6 weeks with bloat than at 12 weeks when the bloat had gone.

Obviously you can’t tell from just a picture but that looks like bloating not bump to me. Is it all soft and squishy? Your uterus is still below your pubic bone in early pregnancy. If you were further along you’d be able to feel a slightly firmer outline of it just above your pubic bone. Lie down and have a feel.

As you say your period was lighter last time it does sound like you are further along. Speak to the midwife about it and I suppose a private scan if that's an option. Congratulations btw🎉

i'm really not sure to be honest. i just had a feel but as it's my first im not sure what im looking for aha. its like quite squishy at the top but the lower down i go it gets more firm and above my pubic bone is pretty solid but can this just be bloating? thank you x

My friend went for her 12 week scan and was told she was 17 weeks..she had bled around the time of her period. I was jealous tbh as we did IVF so had a long wait from finding out at 10 dpt!
