Labour signs or wishful thinking?

Hey everyone!
I'm 38 weeks (tomorrow) and have been getting really strong BH's for the past two days. Along with back ache and some crampy type feelings but nothing that falls into a pattern as far as I've noticed so far. This evening I decided to joint my DP for a dog walk and since then I've been having really sharp shooting pains in (what feels like) my cervix. I have also had bad diarrhoea (sorry TMI), which is unusual for me at the moment as I've been constipated from iron tablets!
Has anyone else experienced these sorts of feelings before labour or am I wishful thinking? This is my second pregnancy and my DS1 came on his due date

Diarrhoea can definitely be a sign of labour starting imminently (it's the body's way of clearing things out before labour - rather than during 😬)!

Good luck!

I think this is more likely just late pregnancy rather than the beginnings of labour, but you never know

DDIL had backache all day on Christmas Day, then started vomiting and having diarrhoea around 10pm, she was 37wks pregnant. Her waters went at 4.40am Boxing Day and she was fully dilated by the time she got to hospital at 7.30am.

Unfortunately DGS wasn’t in the right position for birth, and that didn’t change, so she had to have a c section and he was born at 13.26.

D&V can be a sign of labour. DDIL didn’t know it was, she thought she had a bug.

Could be, OP! My DC1 arrived on their due date, DC2 ten days early.

Depending on the position of your baby & in particular your baby's head's descent into your pelvis which occurs before the onset of active labour . The cervix shortens & thins during the early stages of labour . I would contact your midwife who knows your history as well want to ensure that all is well for you & your baby .

@HeatherHeather I've been seeing the midwife weekly for the past few weeks (due to high BP) and each time she's examined my bump she has said baby is head down and engaged. Not entirely sure if that has any bearing on how soon labour could happen!

The diarrhoea is a very hopeful sign. Good luck OP!

How are you, OP? Anything more happening?
