Booked in for growth scan with no explanation

Hi!

I'm hoping someone can assuage some concerns. I'm in my first pregnancy and currently at 19 weeks. We've had two midwife appointments so far and no issues have been raised.

We've received a letter in the post confirming our '3rd Trimester Scan' with no explanation as to why this has been booked in. Everything online suggests this is only provided if I'm considered at risk but I don't meet any of the criteria and haven't yet been measured by the midwife or had our 20 week scan yet so I'm really confused as to why this has been booked in.
I think I'm just concerned there's something wrong or potentially wrong that they haven't flagged to us.

I've been trying for 8 hours to call our midwife with no luck so just wanted to see if anyone else had a similar experience!

I think this seems to be the norm in the US but not in the UK from what I can tell?

Thanks very much!

In some trusts a third scan is offered routinely (in my trust everyone is offered a third scan at 36 weeks) - worth checking with the midwife if that’s the case in your trust?

You're probably in a trust that offers a third scan as standard.

Some trusts do them for all now, or it could just be a mistake. I wouldn’t worry about it just question when you next see your midwife

I was booked in for a growth scan at 34 weeks due to higher than normal BMI (I have since been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes so I'm having much more regular growth scans now) but my friend wasn't a high risk pregnancy, she gave birth in October and was given a 36 week scan. Her midwife said it was new standard practice for their trust and apparently it could be rolled out across more trusts if it proves to be beneficial in those final weeks before giving birth.

I was booked in for 36 weeks because I'm over 40 (standard in my trust) but that was explained to me at 14 weeks.

Thanks so much for all your responses so far, definitely really reassuring to hear! This third scan will fall when I’m 28 weeks so it might just be our Trust who have decided to start doing them more routinely at that point!

I won’t worry so much then and will just double check with the midwife at the next appointment :)

thanks again! :)

I got a letter for a scan at 28 weeks before I'd even had my 12 week scan. My MW didn't know what it was for. I can only assume it's because I've requested a planned section
