Early Pregnancy Scan

Hi all,

Struggling a bit today.

I had an ultrasound yesterday and baby was measuring 8W4days even though I am 10W5days. I had previous scan on 13th Dec, where it was measuring 8W3days. So it has been 3 weeks and the baby has only grown 1mm. The first ultrasound was at Birmingham Women’s hospital and they had used a high frequency machine(48Hz) but the latest one at a private clinic used frequncy of 24Hz. I don’t know how much difference the frequncy makes but I think it hasn’t grown at all and is not looking good. We could still see the heart flicker. Do you guys have any positive stories advice?

I'm sorry to hear this OP. It doesn't sound good. 🙁

What did the clinic say? Why have you had so many early scans?

Bushu · 04/01/2024 10:19

I have had 4 miscarriage's in the past, hence they did an early pregnancy scan. The last ultrasound was for reassurance and I got it done at a private clinic. Unfortunately it brought about more stress rather than relief.

I know what you mean, I've been in the same position myself. Have the clinic told you to come back or referred you to the NHS?

I hope you're ok and getting plenty of support.

So sorry you’re going through this. Were both the same type of scan? As in, was one a transvaginal and one abdominal? Or both the same?

Bushu · 04/01/2024 11:42

Hi @Mrsttcno1, thanks for replying it was both an abdomen scan.

Hi @wasanneofcleves thanks for your kind words. I do have a nhs scan on 15th Jan so waiting for it. The private consultant just pointed out that I could have probably ovulated late and would definitely need a re-scan. But since I am already getting one through nhs I don't think there is much point in going back to him.

I would honestly try not to worry too much then OP especially if you could see a strong heartbeat. Abdominal scans in very early pregnancy can be inaccurate depending on so many factors honestly we had an early scan transvaginal and they told us that the baby is so tiny at those stages that it can be difficult to get clear measurements and that even the slightest difference in measurement at that stage makes a huge difference so it is easily done. Try to be calm and see what they say at your next scan x

@Mrsttcno1 thank you!
