Sweep success stories?

Hi all
currently 38+2 and very uncomfortable! I’ve been under consultant care due to small measurements and excess fluid. Had a scan today to advise on whether induction would be booked due to fluid but my fluid has come down and is now within normal range which is good news but baby’s growth has slowed a bit. The consultant has booked a sweep for 39 weeks and another scan for 40 weeks but says it’s unlikely induction will be needed unless the fluid goes back up. I want my birth to be as natural as possible, so in that sense glad I’m not being induced but I am also so ready to have this baby!

has anyone had success with sweeps? From what I’m reading they don’t seem to be very successful and I don’t want to start getting my hopes up that he might be with us next week!

With my first I went into labour the morning after a sweep (and sex and curry 😂)
With my second I had about 3/4 sweeps and ended up being induced. Although I only had the peasant and she was born about 4 1/2 hours later, so it was great!
Good luck. Just do what you feel is right for you!

I had a sweep, waters broke that night, baby born the next evening. Good luck!

I went into labour the day after my sweep (which was completely painless).

I had a sweep and midwife said I was no where near ready, contractions started 2am next morning.

I think they can help move things along if your body is already gearing up for labour. But if your body isn’t ready then it won’t do anything. I had 2 done, the first did nothing and there was no change between the first and second. The day I had the second I was already having mild contractions anyway so I’m not sure it really did much. But I didn’t want an induction so figured it was worth a go

They worked for me with both of my pregnancies however I think baby was already on their way anyway. With DD my waters had gone so I was given a sweep not long after then again 9 hours later. She was born 14 hours after the second sweep. With DS I'd felt pressure for 12 hours or so before having the sweep, I'd asked my MW for one at my 38 week appointment. She agreed if conditions were favourable which they were, head was down, she could feel the head, waters were bulging (which explained the pressure I'd been feeling) and I was already 4cm dilated. Went into labour the following morning and he was here within 3 hours.
One thing I remember were the sweeps being very painful with DD. When I was having my sweep with DS I tensed up, when MW asked why I explained it was because I was preparing myself for the pain. She said sweeps shouldn't be painful, if they are then it means that your body isn't ready for a sweep. That one didn't hurt at all.

They're often successful if your body is already getting ready, so if you have one and your already say 1cm dilated it often starts labour but if your cervix is still tightly shut they're often not successful as a stand alone for inducing labour no. They will tell you how your cervix is when doing the sweep 😄

I had 2, one day after the other. 1st one was horrific, female doctor was very rough! 2nd one was much better, no pain whatsoever, male doctor was very nice and talked me through the whole process. I went into labour 10 hours later. I'm sceptical if they work or not. I was monitored for a while the morning before I got the 2nd one and I think they knew baby was coming soon. It is very hard to know if the sweeps worked or if baby would've come along at the time anyway without one!

I had a sweep and went into labour about an hour later, DS was born 6 hours later. I was 40+5 so I guess my body was ready at that point!
