Hi all this is my first pregnancy I am currently 41 weeks + 3 days, I am feeling so deflated I have tried everything to induce labour naturally and now I'm booked for an induction on NYE which I really didn't want, I have had a sweep at 40 weeks and did nothing I lost a bit of my plug that's about it, have I got any hope? Anyone else been in the same boat? I don't know whether to postpone the induction too! Gutted is an understatement! Don't mean to sound selfish as long as my baby is happy and healthy that's all that matters just wanted to give birth naturally x

Both of mine needed a sweep to get them going. Both births were then straight forward. Please don't worry. You've spent so long waiting for your baby it feels like a massive thing but whatever brings them safely is what gives you all a good start to parenthood. It won't be long until you're snuggled up together.

Hiddenawaytoday · 28/12/2023 21:55

I've been there - I was totally gutted that I hadn't started naturally! But I got induced at 41+3 and it was the most positive birth of my 3 (one spontaneous labour and one elcs for breech baby). I loved having a midwife with me the whole time, which I didnt get for spontaneous labour, and I loved not having to stress about when to get to hospital. Anecdotally, it seems like inductions for late babies seem to go pretty smoothly compared to early inductions. Good luck!

Thank you both!! Just needed some words of encouragement! You are both completely right just feels like it's never going to happen haha! But knowing people have been in the same boat makes me feel better xx

I was induced with my first, and like a PP has said, I really enjoyed having a midwife with me from the get go. In the mean time, get moving, get bouncing on your ball, so some oxytocin inducing things and try all the old wives tales to get labour started 😅 You might have the first baby born of the year 🥰 Good luck, please let us know how you get on!

3ormoredogs · 29/12/2023 19:26

I went into labour the night before my planned induction, DD was born the morning I was due to go in.

Dont loose hope yet!

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 29/12/2023 20:09

Do you know how they plan to induce you OP? Remember you always have choices. I had an induction at 41+4 with my first, the pessary so the most entry/low level method, but it was enough to get things going. I was allowed to go home afterward and see if it worked, and labour on the MLU in a pool when I came back in roughly 12hrs later at 4cm dilated. So don't lose hope!

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 29/12/2023 20:11

My induction was pretty straight forward at 40+2 13 hours from Pessary in to birth. First baby.

You've got this mama. No long until you will be holding baby In your arms. Meanwhile try to get the oxytocin flowing as much as you can.

Tryingtohelp12 · 29/12/2023 20:16

both my second and third arrived a few hours before my induction time. Good luck!

Gruffalotea · 29/12/2023 20:17

You absolutely do not have to have an induction you don’t want. Have a read of Sara Wickhams book ‘in your own time’.

Being ‘overdue’ is rubbish, I totally understand your frustration. I went into labour spontaneously at 41+5 after an oxytocin filled day: morning lie in, walk with partner, some pineapple and bouncing on ball, sex, afternoon movie and a nap, then dinner made by my mum, some board games, and a reasonably early night.

Not saying any of those things put me into labour, just that DH and I had a really enjoyable day together, I tried not to think of labour and just had a nice day. Woke up the following morning in labour.

Katherina02837 · 29/12/2023 20:47

I was induced at 41 weeks with my first. I loved that I always knew what to expect, I always had a midwife near me and saw the baby's heartbeat on the monitor.
For me, being home guessing what constructions feels like and not knowing when to go to the hospital sounded much worse than being induced.
I had a very great experience.

WooWooWinnie · 29/12/2023 20:56

Induction is a choice. You can choose not to be induced yet and to have expectant management instead.

mkwar · 29/12/2023 23:08

To all those who responded thank you so much! Made me feel so much better! I have had a really nice day with my partner got a little emotional and overwhelmed at one point but after reading all of your story's I feel a lot more confident! Thank you for all your positive words! I will let you all know the outcome let's see if little man makes an appearance before the induction! 💖

Hey 👋 i went 15 days over with my first and 8 days with my second and am currently 3 days over with this one, booked in on the 3rd for induction, it is frustrating, as i didn’t have a great experience with my first being induced, my second i went into labour naturally 2 days before my induction date, with this one though im so tired of being pregnant at this point im looking forward to being induced despite my not so good experience with my first lol ive had 4 sweeps so far, another booked for tomorrow but im not holding my breath lol good luck for tomorrow x

mkwar · 30/12/2023 12:22

Good news guys!!! Went for my 41 week's appointment today! Midwife thinks I'll be in labour by tonight or tomorrow head is engaged and he is so low down! Had another sweep which caused contractions! Holding off on the induction a couple more days as it may be happening naturally!! 💖💖💖

Amazing news! Wishing you all the luck for safe delivery!

mkwar · 01/01/2024 19:52

Update DS was born at 6:52am this morning the 01/01/2024! Unfortunately had to be induced and ended up being the most traumatic experience! However worth every second! Xx

Congratulations on your new baby! Be kind to yourself x

Mamma1982 · 01/01/2024 20:51

Congratulations! My first birth was traumatic (not induced), second was amazing (completely natural), third (2.5 weeks early - meant to be induced and came naturally in hospital). All births are different! Let your body recover and take your time and rest as much as you can. Enjoy your little man. I have 3 gorgeous boys and they will always make you laugh!! 🙂❤️

Coco9910 · 01/01/2024 21:10

@mkwar congratulations! Hope you are recovering okay! I was induced and had a really traumatic time. Speak to the nurses about a birth reflection meeting if you think it will help. Go easy on yourself, and enjoy your new little one 🥰

mkwar · 01/01/2024 21:12

Thank you so much everyone !! 💙💖
