Unplanned pregnancy - 3 under 4!

Hi mumsnetters!!!

So I’ve been feeling a bit sicky (have struggled with bad sickness in both my other pregnancies) and took a test totally expecting it to be negative, it wasn’t! I’ve done another test, which shows I’m definitely pregnant!

We werent planning any more babies, I am on the pill, and it has come as a shock.

According to my Flo App, I’ll be due in September. My eldest will be 3 in March and my youngest will be 2 in August - they are only 17 months apart - both planned pregnancies!

We live in a 2 bed semi, it is spacious and the bedrooms are both big bedrooms. However, I’m totally panicking!!

I feel so bad on my eldest as he will be starting nursery the September as a new baby will be joining too - I’ll have to take the other out the childminder as it’s too expensive but he will get 15 hours.

I don’t really know what I want from this, but has anyone else been in this situation? How did you cope? 3 under 4 🥺🥺🥺 worried about space in the house, money and just feeling bad on the other 2. Hoping someone has been in this sit and can’t tell me it’s all gonna be FINE 😂😂

Unfortunately I don't have any helpful advice, but didn't want to read and run! Hopefully someone will pop along with some helpful advice. I have two under two and on the crap days I just think about what the future holds having two lovely babes.

Hope you are doing okay ❤️❤️

We have 3 under 3 and I wouldn't change a thing much as the last one twins was unexpected.Theres only 10months between them and there brother

Ladyj84 · 27/12/2023 20:34

Sorry we were lucky didn't have to change much as we were already in a 3 bed house anyhow. Hubby cut his work hours the first year to help out more and now back to normal again

I had a very unplanned & unexpected Dc4(DH’s vasectomy failed) and had 4 under 4 for a while. It was a big shock, but after a belated 12 week scan at 16 weeks I was ok with it. He’s in reception now and it’s been hardwork, tiring but also fun, they’re all close, get on well most of the time too. Wouldn’t change a thing now and he is fabulous and always felt like it should have been. . I’ve always tried to make even a few minutes everyday for each be it a story, bath etc in the early days. Financially it’s been hard, I’m just about to head back to work, studied with the OU part time whilst at home with them all to save on nursery costs. We were fortunate that we had 2 girls & 2 boys in a 3/4 bed so they share and once I’m back at work have scope to extend, also older and haven’t a massive mortgage left which has helped. Take help if and when you can, get out often for walks, playgroups. Be organised but realistic with your expectations some days can be tough, others can be fantastic.

@Folkishgal ah thank you! My head just feels a shed at the minute - it honestly wouldn’t be the worst thing. I’m 30, have 3 years left on the fixed rate mortgage - I bought the house myself 7 years ago and dh isn’t on the mortgage yet so would be going on it next time anyway and we have about 100k equity in the house so there’s definitely scope to move!

@Ladyj84 ah this makes me feel so much better! If you can do it with 3 that close then I definitely can. My eldest will be 3 and a half and it’s a whole 9 months away so will be even more grown up, I guess!

@EcoCustard I love the idea of just having the time with each one. We’ve got 17 months between our two now and they do get on well (they’re not perfect and do fight too haha!). I’ve struggled so much with both pregnancies and being so poorly so hopefully this one is better! I’m sure we will manage it’s just a scary thought! We do have such good routines in place so hopefully a third can just slot in! 🙈🤪

I had 3 under 4yrs at one point. Then 6 years later had another. Best thing I ever did. It was less tiring with the first 3 so close together than with my last one even thou I had more help. Now they're 22, 20, 19 and 13. You'll be fine!! Don't worry everything will come naturally 🥰

Imagine if there was some kind of way of protecting against pregnancy.. oh wait..

I’m sorry, but everyone knows that the pill can fail for various reasons, if you really did NOT want to conceive you would have used extra protection…

Mamabear32 · 28/12/2023 15:48

@Snugglewuggle25 ah I’m so excited for a bigger family! I’m just scared but I was before my second and it’s been fine haha!

@mrsclaus1984 oh sorry if it came across like I didn’t want to be pregnant - I’m so happy about it, just in total panic mode. It is sooner than we expected to have a third! I’m happy about it though.
