Coming off IVF meds…feeling very anxious

Hi all,

I am currently 12+3 with an IVF baby. I was supposed to be coming off all meds at 12 weeks but the clinic agreed to allow me to stay on until after Christmas as I find this time of year really hard as it is after 4 losses. I’m currently on 3x cyclogest and 2x lubion a day. I was thinking about tapering off until Saturday when I’ll be 13 weeks. I’m feeling really nervous about just coming off altogether cold Turkey.
Ive got 4x lubion left so was thinking about doing 1x lubion and 2x cyclogest a day tomorrow and Thursday and then 1x cyclogest and 1x lubion on Friday and Saturday. That will obviously take me out of the first trimester and I think mentally it’ll just be much better for me.

Has anybody ever done or experienced similar? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

I think that I did similar but I can’t remember the exact details, I spoke to the consultant and he advised me how to do it. So I think it’s reasonable but you need to have their guidance. Wish you the best x

Congrats OP and sorry for your losses. I would agree with weaning off, but I'd also speak to your midwife/consultant about your mental health. You might benefit from speaking to someone about your anxiety now, before things escalate. You still have 2/3 of the pregnancy to go and it can bring up all manner of emotions, especially after previous losses. x

I stopped my progesterone cold turkey at 12 weeks, I was on ultrogestan 3 times a day. However I had my 12 week scan at 11+5 so that scan really helped reassure me to stop the medication. It also helped to remind myself they stop it around 12 weeks because that’s when the placenta is formed and makes its own progesterone. Good luck however you decide to do it.

I came off progesterone at 16 weeks but not the normal. Due to history of miscarriages

Thanks for all of your advice everyone. I’ve just been to see the consultant. I’m going to wean off with 2 pessaries and 2 injections today and tomorrow, 3 days of 1 pessary and 1 injection and then he’s going to let me stay on 1 pessary a day until 16 weeks. I feel much, much happier now! Thank you again for all of your support x

That’s great, I’m so glad they were supportive.

Oh god I remember this so well! I couldn’t imagine just stopping it all and everything being fine - probably because, similar to you, in my head, I equated stopping it all with being told it was all over.

I tapered down and weirdly very quickly forgot and everything was fine. He’s 18months now and it’s incredible ❤️
