Morning sickness help!

Hi all,

I'm around 6 and a half weeks with my first pregnancy and am feeling so so nauseous- I'm guessing morning sickness is kicking in!

I'm worried the baby won't be getting the right nutrition as I'm struggling to eat anything of any value, and even the thought of eating certain foods is turning my stomach and the smell of others is repulsing me!

The only thing that helps a little seems to be cream crackers but I don't think I can eat those forever 😫
Have tried lemon water, peppermint tea and ginger biscuits - no joy.

Are there any other tips at all that have worked for you?

Thanks

Anti sickness medication from the GP.

I spent two/three weeks on the first trimester on rice cakes and plain pasta... I'd say don't worry too much since they say it's even normal to loose a bit of weight at those weeks. However my midwife always said to contact them if you can't keep anything down and throw up everything you eat so if you're worried just call your gp or even go to A&E if you're worried. You can also check if your nearby hospital has an early pregnancy unit and I'm sure they'll see you. Good luck x

Try nibbling on raw almonds. It does wonders for acid reflux which is contributing to your nausea. Stay away from lots of gluten and carbs as this just continues the vicious cycle.

Don’t worry, baby has everything it needs, all you can do is ride it out.

Calipso ice lollies help me when I feel particularly nauseous and are good at keeping hydrated too. I also keep some biscuits by my bed which I eat before getting out of bed in the morning. I’m 11+1 and honestly have just been eating whatever I can stomach, as recommended by the GP, mainly very plain/beige food and taking my prenatals.

I found ginger ale more effective than ginger biscuits. The baby will be getting all they need, try and take a pregnancy vitamin at the time of day you feel best.

Don't worry about the baby not getting what it needs. I didn't eat a proper meal for 22 weeks and baby was fine, midwife wasn't concerned for baby. Go see your GP for anti sickness though and if you can't keep anything down let your midwife know. Push them if they fob you off, they did with me and I Ended up having HG. A few things that i found helped me:

prego pops were brilliant (look on amazon) they are really sour sweets. Little expensive but I loved them.

Chewits extra sour helped too or anything sour

white bread & real butter (I would never touch the stuff usually) but it sat on my stomach okay

Ice cold fresh orange juice

ice lollies helped as I couldn't keep water down but could keep orange juice down

crackers - plain. I used to eat one before I got out of bed on a morning otherwise I would be sick straight away.

it will hopefully pass for you soon OP. Congratulations on your pregnancy xx

The baby will get what it needs don't worry , I was living off beige food , ice water and ice pops . My sickness passed at 11 weeks it's awful but you will get there .

SquashPenguin · 25/12/2023 07:40

Eat what you can eat. Don’t make yourself suffer. I lived on ice lollies, bread and cheese for 14 weeks and there was no harm done.

BurbageBrook · 25/12/2023 07:58

I found green smoothies tolerable. Or green veg only with lots of gravy on it! Would those things help you to eat healthily? Did work a bit for me. But I agree definitely see the GP as meds can help.

Also for me sipping on cold juice seemed to help, plus chewing gum between meals.

I was to let ice cubes melt in my mouth

Read up on b6 supplements. Has been a game changer for me - P5P form, 50mg daily. Thank me later 😉
