Private gender scan at 16 weeks

Hi all, I had a private gender scan at 16 weeks. The sonographer said baby wasn’t in the best position (I closed my eyes as we did a gender reveal later on) the other day the midwife said it looked like swollen girl parts due to having 3 lines and potentially is umbilical cord. I’m now confused!! 20 week scan is in 3 weeks

This is so interesting! I had DS on 17/09 and we didn’t want to find out, but I did see on the scan little male genitalia! They were very obviously 2 smaller balls and a long bit between the thigh bones - with nothing inside like in your picture (with the lighter lines, potential bones?)

I’m not a medical professional but I actually think your scan looks more like a girl!

If you google boy/girl ultrasounds there are loads you can look at to compare! If you have other scans of side on view of baby you can go on YouTube and see videos on how to tell if they are a boy/girl from the early 12 week scan too.

Either way, baby will be beautiful and happy! I would just wait to the 20 week scan, and ofc they are never 100% accurate..

I am having a girl and your scan does look different from mine. The three lines are more defined and not sticking out as much on my scan so I think you could be having a boy. Congrats!

I think that’s a boy. Looks very different to my girls scan pic.

you can always ask the private scan clinic to scan you again if you’re not confident though x

Would they see me again? It costs so much I dunno if I’d pay again. We have a 20 week scan on 11th January I might just wait. I’m thinking it’s for sure a boy I just got that little seed of doubt now

This what a few people have said about it looking like female sex organs , one was my midwife another a midwife friend. Both have told me personal experience of people misgendering on the scan so I know it can happen.

Wait another 4 weeks to your 20 week scan to get it confirmed if you're not sure.

The midwife who made these comments.. is she a sonographer midwife? I don't think she is or she would see that the bladder is the right of the boy parts (the small black circle) that section is to high for cord, Your at the wrong stage for girl bits to be swollen, plus... The typical three lines which we look for with girls are not seen on these images.

I don't think they would see you again because you are doubting them based on people commenting on static images, where as they assessed fetal sex on live action images to assess from all angles.

Terrible photo as I’ve zoomed in but this is the screenshot I got of my scan (DP recorded) just before they told me he was a boy. Not as pronounced as in your scan which makes me think that your scan is definitely a boy! Like someone else said, you’re too late gestation for a girl to have swollen parts like that as far as I know.

I don’t think they’d see you again as they’ve identified a gender and it looks like quite a clear scan. Get clarification at your 20 week scan but enjoy your lovely boy!

Of the baby wasn't in the right position, they should of asked you to go back.
You pay so much money and they "guessed" based on what they could see there.
When I did gender scan it was very clear as my daughter was in the right position, but the sonografer told me they would keep asking me to go back until they get it right.

I think it’s a boy. It’s very different to the gender pics I have for my girlie.

Thanks everyone! Yes it’s definitely a boy and they’re the professionals of course. Just suddenly had a wave of doubt hearing all these personal stories of misreading in the scan from first hand account is all. All I care about is baby being healthy and big brother would love a little brother to be thick as thieves with 😍

@Deeottto until u get a defo answer if u wanted to start buying things start will grey and white that’s what I did till we found out for defo
