Hi everyone, I'm 21 weeks and have been on aspirin since 12 weeks due to previous mmc and hypertension.
I'm not sure if it's related or not so any advice of anyone else had experienced this too would be helpful...

I keep getting bruises without even banging myself, I've had a bruise in a ring shape on my leg since the 1st week in November and it's not going 🤦‍♀️ also I have nose bleeds every day and my gums are bleeding every day too.

Is this aspirin or is it something else worth ringing the GP about?

Thanks

You need to speak to your GP. It could be related but it needs checking. They should do some blood tests for you. Can you speak to labour ward triage too?

When I mentioned the bruising and the bleeds at my last midwife appt she didn't seem concerned at all but I'm just bothered this bruise isn't going at all and the gums seem to be bleeding on their own now without brushing

That's good to know then I got panicked coz I've never seen anyone on aspirin say that's happened to them

The hormones in pregnancy can really mess with your oral health! Would see a hygienist for a clean if you can. Aspirin probably not helping the bleeding gums but could be totally unrelated.
Bruises are likely aspirin but good to ask midwife Incase.
good luck x

@Kellyaust i was on aspirin with my twins and I came out in random bruising even the slightest bump I had a bruise aspirin thins the blood that’s why

Silverfoxlady · 22/12/2023 12:29

It says on the aspirin packet that this can be a side-effect of the medication, so it is best to see your doctor just to check all is ok.

littlemissalwaystired · 22/12/2023 12:51

Bleeding gums and nosebleeds are common in pregnancy. You have hormones that increase vasodilation so it's nothing to worry about from that aspect. Might be worth a quick call with the GP about the bruising just to be on the safe side, but it's not uncommon with aspirin.

threecupsofteaminimum · 22/12/2023 13:03

It's to thin your blood so your supply doesn't clot through your placenta and inhibit baby's growth. Blood thinners automatically make you more susceptible to bruises.

Kellyaust · 22/12/2023 13:20

Yes I'm on my 4th baby so I know about the hormones etc but never had this before, I was more worried that the bruising isn't going and the gums starting to bleed on their own.

I will mention again to midwife thanks

I’m on aspirin, bruising really easily and also they’re taking ages to go as well. I haven’t mentioned it to anyone and just assumed it was the aspirin and also healing slower in pregnancy. But as others have said, if it’s concerning you definitely mention it
