Postpartum High Blood Pressure

Hi all..
Sorry in advance for the long post!

I was diagnosed with preeclampsia at 36 weeks, put on labetalol 200mg 4 times daily and induced due to this at 37 weeks. Induction all went well.. And baby girl was born 8th December. All seemed okay after birth and blood pressure was stable and under the 140/90.. 3 days postpartum my blood pressure spiked and I ended up back in hospital over night and put on Nifedipine 10mg twice daily. Since then I have had headaches everyday, they do seem to ease with paracetamol but never seem to go completely. Mixed with very little sleep and a cold bug I have picked up from somewhere I feel pretty crap tbh. I am seeing my midwife tomorrow so will obviously ask them but just wondered if anyone has anything similar.. Do you think it's a side effect to the medication? Blood pressure has been fine again since starting the new medication..

Thanks 🙏🏼

Blood pressure can take a while to come down after birth/pre eclampsia, took 7-8 weeks for me.

headaches are pretty common postpartum… could be due to BP/meds/sleep deprivation etc but there are a few other things to think about…. did you have an epidura/spinal injection? There’s a particular type of headache you can get after either (usually pretty obvious if that is what’s causing it)…might be worth mentioning to your MW/asking them to chat to an anaesthetist if that’s a possibility. Any other symptoms like visual change/hearing change/weakness/numbness/funny turns etc should be assessed sooner. HTH

Thank you for that.. So I had the needle in my back for an epidural when I needed to push and it had to be removed so I'm not sure if that counts as having it or not? 🤷🏼‍♀️ But I will ask tomorrow. I'm very prone to hormonal headaches and get them every month during my period so that could definitely be another possibility
