Pregnancy after missed miscarriage

Hi, I had a missed miscarriage earlier on this year, we found out at the 12 week scan and was heartbroken. I have just found out I am pregnant again, 4W 5D!!

Is anyone going through similar or has been, I'd love to chat with someone who knows what I'm going through as it can be quite lonely at times x

I had similar last year - went for my 12 week scan only to find out baby hadn't grown since about 5 weeks. Got pregnant again this year and I'm now holding my baby girl, born safe and healthy 2 weeks ago. The anxiety was much worse this time around but there is hope - I also went for a private scan (which is generally looked down on on Mumsnet but it helped me) at around 8 weeks. Good luck!

@2preg hello! Very similar, had a MMC at 12 weeks (baby stopped just shy of 10 weeks in October) and I'm now 4+3 😊

Kellyaust · 16/12/2023 07:28

Hi, sorry for your loss, this also happened to me in may this year I know how heartbreaking it is, but I fell pregnant again in August and I'm now 20+4.... I won't lie for the first 16 weeks I was a nervous wreck! It's natural! But I had scans every 2 weeks for reassurance and now I am completely relaxed and looking forward to baby's arrival. But it's super hard mentally so I get you x

Hi @2preg I also had a missed miscarriage earlier this year, I'm now 16+3 with what will be my third child. Totally relate to the feelings of loneliness, this pregnancy has been very different with lots of mixed emotions. I didn't allow myself to get excited until after my first scan because I was so scared of it happening again. Wishing you the best of luck for your pregnancy 🙂

This is nearly enough the exact same as me! My baby stopped growing just after 10 weeks, and now I'm 4weeks 5d pregnant 💖

@2preg ah that's lovely we're so close together! I've had my 12 scan date through - 7th Feb. I found out at the 12 week scan last time so not sure how I feel about it! Are you going to have any early scans? I'm also a day out, I'm 4+4 😂 so current due date of 20th August

Ingridika · 16/12/2023 10:49

I had 2 missed miscarriages this year. In both cases babies died in the week 9. I am pregnant for thé third time in 2023, currently 10+5. Had my latest scan two days ago and all was still fine. I cannot say that I am reassured that this pregnancy will be successful and don’t know if I ever be until the baby is here. I have 2 children already and have enjoyed pregnancies with them, this time around it is pure stress.
what I am being told by everyone, that each pregnancy is different and we should not compare it. I would just love to know the cause of miscarriages and not let the nature take it turn…
good luck and be strong!

I'm just going to be a nervous wreck Until I get the 12 week scan I think 😂 I haven't had the date for that yet, have booked in for a early scan on the 1st Jan so I will be 7 weeks then! My date is the 19th haha!

Sorry for your loss, it also happened to me - I had an emergency scan at exactly 12 weeks and it was a missed miscarriage. So heartbreaking, even when I knew it was a high chance at the age of 43.

I am pregnant again and currently at 15 weeks today. I was so worried that I paid for two private early scans at 7weeks and 10 weeks. I didn’t want to go through a horrible experience again. I am so glad that they were healthy scans and growing well. I keep my fingers crossed still.

Funny, at my official NHS 12 week scan she said how relaxed we were. It was before we told her we had two scans already.

The morning sickness this time is horrendous, that is the only downside.

SPsmama · 16/12/2023 13:14

I had an MMC at 10 weeks in April, I'm now 8 weeks. Had a private scan at 8 weeks with MMC and it was only measuring 5 weeks, but cos they saw a heartbeat they didn't care when I asked to be referred to EPU.

I've not had a scan yet this time cos I've lost all faith with the private scan, and I don't qualify for early scans on the NHS so just have to wait it out for my 12 week scan.

My symptoms are very much like my first pregnancy (who is almost 2) and the line on the test was much stronger so I'm feeling much more positive about this. It's funny cos I was anxious all the way through my first two pregnancies without ever having a loss before, but now I have I'm strangely calm. Maybe I'm in denial about what could be. It's Schrödingers pregnancy at the moment.

My 12 week scan will be sometime next month but haven't heard yet. Anxious to go to my booking appointment in a few weeks without knowing anything. I'd had scans prior to my previous booking appointments.

SnookyPook · 17/12/2023 00:47

@2preg hello! Also very nervous here as had a MMC in April at 11+4 (baby had stopped developing at 7+5). Since then I've unfortunately had a CP and another MC at 7wks... But, on a cycle we'd decided to take a break from it all to give my MH a bit of recovery time, I wasn't tracking, must have ovulated a bit later than normal... And... Here I am again! Currently 6+4... First scan at EPU next week and I'm already so nervous.

Recognise a few names on this thread - nice to hear updates... Especially @Kellyaust ! So happy to hear you are past 20wks now! 🙏🏼

Just thought I'd share a bit of positive news.

I had a miscarriage albeit it was quite early, I went on to fall pregnant the month after, then again at 7 months post partum and have two healthy babies.

Baby dust for all ❤️

Kellyaust · 17/12/2023 06:48

@SnookyPook hello lovely! So nice to hear from you again, wow I really really hope and pray this is your sticky baby my do you deserve it you've been through so much!! 🤞

Yes it's all becoming quite real now 😬 she's a very active baby too, I have an anteria placenta for the first time ever so shouldn't technically be able to feel so much... But I can feel her more than my other pregnancies! 💗

Stars1994 · 14/02/2024 20:04

I found out today I had a MMC at 9 weeks + 3. Me and my boyfriend weren’t planning on a baby just yet so very mixed emotions when we found out I was pregnant: had a scan at 6 + 4 and heartbeat was present. Wasn’t until about 8 weeks we were so excited, did the celebration we didn’t initially do when we had the positive test.

didnt feel right on Sunday, so booked an early scan. When they said there was no heartbeat I was inconsolable. Now need to go through the next stage of MMC which I am terrified about, please share experiences about which option is best? I am hoping with all my heart the next time I will be able to take the little seed to term:l. Totally heartbroken today and empty

Hi @Stars1994

so sorry to hear what you are currently going through. I had a MMC and was told at my 12 weeks scan on the 27th dec 23. It’s devastating.

I was given a couple of options and I opted for surgical management. However, I had a two week wait so my body MC naturally and 4 days later I went in for the SM as following a scan I still had a lot of tissue that I needed to pass. From my experience I am glad I opted for SM as my experience with the natural MC is not one I wish to encounter again. SM I didn’t feel or see anything and recovery was 3 days for me.

it’s been a few weeks since your post how are you getting on? Sending lots of hugs your way.

Stars1994 · 27/02/2024 17:55

Sadly MMC was very painful for me but physically recovered quickly, not so much emotionally. They said I might have retained tissue so going back in 11 days for a scan, just hoping I don’t have to go through it again as want to TTC again and just want my body to go back to pre-pregnancy. Nurses were amazing though and so attentive and caring
