Can you use this in pregnancy? I’m only 5 weeks ish…. But desperate for sleep x

No it can't be used. It can reduce the blood flow to the placenta. I'd say to try a steam bowl instead. Hope you manage to get some sleep.

No, not if it contains a decongestant
Saline spray may help.

Check out the addicted to nasal spray thread.

dementedpixie · 13/12/2023 22:01

Do you have the cold or is it blocked for a different reason?

Sotired22 · 13/12/2023 22:04

I researched this a lot in pregnancy, seemed to me that it was one of those things where they can’t say it’s safe but there’s not really any evident either that it’s NOT safe. I avoided it as much as possible but did the tiniest spray every few days if I was desperate for sleep. I was really congested in pregnancy and personally didn’t find saline sprays helpful.

Breathe Right strips helped a bit.

I have been dependent on this nasal spray since I was 16. I am now 32. Just for context. I realise this is bad and not good for me etc etc etc just telling you for context.

I have children and I took my nasal spray every 4-6 hours (as I always do) throughout all my pregnancies and all my children were fine.

I would say if you need it as a one off to get a good sleep, then go for it.

dementedpixie · 13/12/2023 22:17

There are a lot of people addicted to it (I was one of them!). I only use it short term when I have the cold or just now as I have covid.

Those vicks inhaler things are supposed to be ok in pregnancy

BlossomTheUnicorn · 15/12/2023 09:47

I'm so glad someone has asked this 🤣 I have been using it most evenings as otherwise wake up so congested. Not getting great sleep as it is so I need all the help I can get. I had got Beconase from the Dr and if I used it every 4hrs I possibly wasn't as bad in the evenings but with the sudofed one I find it MUCH more effective. I also did a bit of research and I do think it is one of those ones where it hasn't officially been tested on pregnant women. It is so localised to the nasal passages and shouldn't really end up near the placenta....

I did and became addicted. Don't do it!!

ZEWatson · 17/01/2024 22:19

Late to the party. I used it throughout my pregnancy (im also completely dependant). My daughter is fine! I've been using it throughout breastfeeding for 15m too. NEED to wean off!
