Hello currently 16 weeks pregnant and had sex last night in missionary position. After about 5/6 minutes we stopped as I was getting uncomfortable. I then started googling and no really worried I've caused damage to my unborn baby.

Can anyone provide me any reassurance please?

I'm so paranoid. I normally feel really sick in the morning and I don't today 😭 how will I know if I've caused any damage?

How do you think you would have caused damage?

TheShellBeach · 13/12/2023 07:39

Your baby is protected by the amniotic fluid so you won't have caused any harm.

I don't know 😭 I've got such bad anxiety, I'm just worried cos I got quite uncomfortable and then I read you shouldn't be on you back in the second trimester as it can stop blood flow?

Please speak to your midwife , don’t Google. It’s totally fine unless you’ve been advised not to. And consider some support for your anxiety as that is not going to be good once baby is here.

29 weeks and still able to lie on my back with no issues. Were you feeling dizzy? Various medical pros have told me that you absolutely know when you've been on your back too long. If you're worried but want to try missionary again, even slight elevation from a couple of pillows will reduce the pressure on the vena cava (although at 16 weeks I'd be very surprised if you are big enough to cause significant pressure).

@Daisies12 thankyou I will

@Thankyouthankyoujellybean that's very reassuring to hear thankyou! I'm just a very paranoid person and always think the worst. I didn't feel dizzy just very uncomfortable!

@SunnySide19922 Pregnancy is basically 9 months of feeling uncomfortable 😂

Try not to worry, it gets you nowhere. You can have sex in many different positions, maybe now is the time to experiment and have fun! Or cuddle up on the sofa and watch a film instead!

I also worried about this - not from the penetration but from pressure on the bump. Propping up your pelvis with a couple of pillows sounds counter-intuitive but I found it helps. Also taking a pause to take the pressure off. I'm now 33w and at this point I'd love if my partner's arms were longer!

I was also told I'd know if I was lying on my back too long. Unless you are sex endurance champions you're not going to hit that limit.

Flopsy145 · 13/12/2023 10:48

They advise you from 28 weeks to not lie on your back so you'll be fine at your stage, also it was only a few mins ago please don't worry. Sex is safe during pregnancy and no damage caused to the baby.
Next time try going on top or lie down/spoon position, might be more comfortable 😊

Whataretheodds · 13/12/2023 11:33

It's not sleeping on your back that's the issue. You can lie on your back for short periods, I'm sure.

Thanks for the replies everyone! Just had midwife appointment and heard babys heartbeat so all is well. Worrying over nothing! Thankyou for the reassurance 😍
