Baby movement at 20 weeks?

Hey all. Im 20 weeks so far and some evenings i can feel the baby moving, (more like a twitching sensation). But i don't feel the baby moving daily, definitely dont have any movement in the day. Is this kind of pattern normal for 20 weeks? Thanks in advance

A lot of women don’t have a pattern yet at 20 weeks and it can be really hard to figure out what’s movement and what isn’t, is this your first baby? I remember 20 weeks was when I started getting bigger kicks and not just fish in a bowl movements.
Which side is your placenta on?

choberry · 10/12/2023 22:20

@M41144 i have no idea what side my placenta is on, theyve never really told me? Yes this is my first. Most people by now say they could feel movement every day. My midwife said to start monitoring them from 24 weeks. But cant help but wonder why im the only one who doesn't have regular movement at this stage (well at least seem to be).

Have you had your 20 week scan yet? If not I would ask them which side your placenta is on as I know that can affect feeling. Honestly it’s different for everyone, a friend of mine found it really hard to notice movements and she was 22 weeks at the time but I found that as time went by I just noticed a pattern forming a bit earlier, it really is subjective

I’m 35 weeks and don’t have a pattern. I mentioned this to the midwife and she said it’s absolutely fine. I feel baby move every day but at 20 weeks definitely didn’t feel her move every day. Maybe 3/4 days a week.

Whoever told you to expect regular movement at 20 weeks was wrong. It’s normal not to feel any movement until 24 weeks, and you are asked to monitor daily movements from 28 weeks. I’ve had 3 babies and didn’t start having daily movements until 27 weeks with my third.

sounds normal. mine felt like when you have a twitchy eye until about 26ish weeks plus
when it started to feel more obvious and with some pattern.

I don’t think a pattern in movements becomes apparent until later on (around 24 weeks onwards) as currently baby has lots of room to move around. I only had flutters at 20 weeks and not felt every day xx

Thanks everybody, baby is fine, in fact very active, gave the sonographer a very hard time 😂, but as shes still quite small they said i wont always feel the movements until 24ish weeks (as most people said), thanks again everyone xxx
