Preventative treatment and hyperemesis gravidarium

Hi

i had hyperemesis in both of my pregnancies (one daughter, one miscarriage). I’m cautiously almost 6 weeks at the moment and so far feeling ok.

I’ve been following the preventative medication route suggested by Pregnancy Sickness Support where you take B6 and cyclizine or promethazine 3 times daily before any nausea sets in and add in other drugs as it gets worse. This approach has been said to be really successful in the HG getting bad.

so far I’ve been ok. A few waves of nausea and a lot of tiredness from the medicines.

has anyone tried this preventative treatment and a poised HG? I can cope with standard sickness and nausea that comes with pregnancy but I’m not sure I can cope with full blown HG again.

any insights welcome.

How are you getting on? I'm 8 weeks with my second HG pregnancy. Cyclazine was making me worse, literally was falling over almost drunk on it and still badly sick. Considering asking for Promethezine so keen to hear if it has been effective.

I've been on Phenergan/promethazine from 4 weeks alongside omeprazole (recommend this alongside whatever you take). I took the max dose of phenergan which is 25mg 3 times a day and yes it did help and yes i was sick less but the nausea was still quite debilitating at times and the drowsiness it caused meant I was off work for a month and then on half days. I also cannot drive. Now at 22 weeks I'm on 25x1 a day, omeprazole and also occasionally metoclopromide.

I also tried xonvea but honestly it didn't seem to do anything but I took it anyway. I also think that th B vitamins helped but I can't be sure.

This pregnancy was better than my other 2 HG pregnancies in that I wasn't sick as much, but the nausea has still been hard to manage. I would recommend exploring as many options as possible and getting advice from Pregnancy Sickness Support charity to help the conversations with your HP.
