How dangerous is it having the flu while pregnant?

I'm only 5 weeks pregnant but I've developed the flu. I'm someone who gets sick very easily so I got the flu jab. However now I've got symptoms such as cough, headache, stuffy nose, body feeling weak. Will this affect my pregnancy?

It's dangerous if you overheat/fever or get dehydrated. Look after yourself.

My GP told me the only cause for concern in pregnancy with the flu is if you have a consistent high temperature that won't come down with paracetamol

Thank you. I don't have a thermometer to check my temperature but I'll take some paracetamol and stay hydrated

I had it recently at 22 weeks, I felt horrendous for a good few days but tried to keep hydrated and eat as much as I could manage. Also kept topped up with paracetamol.

Flu can be really dangerous when pregnant so Keep track of your temp and if it gets dangerously high call your gp or midwife.

Wishing you a speedy recovery x

Are you sure it's flu or are those just flu like symptoms? If you're vaccinated it would be very unusual to catch it. There's a nasty bug going round very like this but without the high temperature, curiously. In any case if you keep an eye on your temperature that's the thing to watch whatever it is.

Would really recommend getting a decent thermometer. I got one of those ear ones, thinking it would be good to have when baby comes too. I have used it quite a bit during pregnancy (have had a temperature twice and it was useful to track, but also found it really useful and reassuring when I had a skin infection and needed to keep an eye out for signs of wider infection, which fortunately didn't materialise).

I have a feeling I've got a chest infection. I'm not sure how dangerous that is to the pregnancy. I've also ordered a thermometer to check for my temp so I'll be keeping track of that
