40+4, failed sweep but cramps?

First time mum here and currently 40+4! Woke up this morning unsure if I was having some tightenings or if it was just strong movements from baby. Thought I could feel some period pain at times throughout the morning but wasn’t sure if I was imagining it 😆 however realised I wasn’t imagining it after I got in from a walk, and did have some period pain which comes, but doesn’t last very long and goes.

Had midwife appt scheduled for lunch time today anyway, sweep attempted but failed as cervix closed but is soft. Had a small amount of pale pink spotting straight after but nothing since. Since then I have continued to have cramps come and go, but they have definitely increased in strength and feel quite uncomfortable when they do come. The length they last/frequency of coming isn’t consistent.

Is it possible I’m having contractions? Even though my cervix was closed. Anyone else actually gone into labour soon after a failed sweep?

Thanks in advance ☺️

Hi, my sister had a sweep and her cervix was closed, but her waters broke the same night. Hopefully it happens soon for you. I had a sweep yesterday and mines were closed too. I'm having another tomorrow.

@sunshine240778474 thank you! I have been awake the entire night with contractions. Still not close enough to go into labour ward though, so really struggling at the moment as very painful. I hope your sweep goes better today!

I've been up with cramping a lot of the night too. Hopefully this is a good sign for both of us. Hopefully when I go for my sweep today my cervix are opened more.

@Wintermummy18 how are you? Anymore signs?

@sunshine240778474 I’ve been in what I’m assuming is early labour now since Wednesday 😩 having painful irregular contractions, some very intense - some 5 mins apart, some 10. I went to the day unit last night to be assessed and given some dihydrocodeine to try and take the edge off so I can sleep. Baby moving lots but movements are actually causing me pain. I’ve decided not to have another attempt at a sweep, the midwife that I saw last night said it could be the failed sweep that’s caused the irregular contractions. Trying to trust my body will work out what to do soon but feeling a bit exhausted already and don’t know what to do with myself! How are you?

What a shame! How are you now? I'm ok. I just seem to have cramping on and off, but it hasn't progressed to anything. I'm getting another sweep on Monday so I'm hoping it will be successful this time

Have you had your baby now? Xx
