5mm fetal pole, told to abort, should I wait?

Hi any advice would be greatly appreciated. Found out I was pregnant 3 weeks ago. I am currently living in Spain. Went to the hospital emergencies last Friday (four days ago as was having spotting and lots of anxiety). Was told bleeding was due to a small cervical erosion and nothing to cause concern. They gave me a transvaginal scan, found the gestation sac at 26mm and a fetal pole of 4mm, they estimated me at being around 6 weeks but said they couldnt find a heart beat. Was told that it was very small and most likely to be too early AND also that the machine they were using wasnt very good.

Was told to go back 4 days later when the other machine would be available and they would expect to see a heartbeat - which after having read the guidelines, is way too early for a typical repeat scan. Went anyway as was torturous 4 days waiting and couldnt stand it anymore...
They gave me another transvaginal scan yesterday and said it looked more or less the same, yet the measurements showed the sac was now 27mm and the fetal pole 5mm. They tried to get me to agree to take the abortion pills there and then but I asked to hang on a few more days...
Obviously Im hoping for the best and may be just clutching at straws but do you think its too early to really know that its definitely a non viable pregnancy? even by tomorrow there will still have only been a 6 day period between the two scans.
And the fetal pole did show growth in those days, albelt not the 1mm per day I had been hoping for...

Have they been monitoring your HGC levels?

INeedNewShoes · 06/12/2023 09:51

I wouldn't take abortion pills at this stage. I can't see why they would advise this rather than letting things just take their natural course either way?

I expect you will miscarry anyway if there is no real growth? I think I would wait a few weeks to see what happens

youngsam85 · 06/12/2023 09:58

no, they have only done the two transvaginal scans. I expected to see no growth at all but the fact that there has been gave me a glimmer of hope..also I read that some studies say that even 1.4mm growth at this stage in 7 days can still be a viable pregnancy

Definitely wait a week or two and have another scan. With my son I went at 7+5 and saw a fetal pole too small for a heartbeat or anything I went back a week later and his heart was beating away and he had grown
Wish you the best of luck

Your physical health isn't at risk.
Would your MH be better to 'know now' or to give it another 1/ 2 weeks ?
If you feel you can wait, I would.

personally I want to wait but they said they are only willing to give me til tomorrow...thats still only 6 days since the first scan...

They can’t make you take abortion pills that you don’t want. I would wait it out. Don’t go back yet, just wait and see how things progress. I had no heartbeat on a scan after some spotting. I was rescanned ten days later and there was her heart, flickering away. You need to leave it longer to have a clear idea. Why are they so insistent on giving you the pills ? Seems bizarre, it is your body and your choice. Can you get a private scan in a week or so ?

youngsam85 · 06/12/2023 13:30

thank you for you message. Yes I have been looking into getting a private scan just for a second opinion...your message gives me hope

Don't take the pills.
6 weeks is still too early
I'll be raising my concerns about whomever scanned you. It's completely inappropriate to be suggesting you have an abortion becsuse there's no fetal heartbeat at 6 weeks

ChildOfTheMoon · 06/12/2023 17:21

You also shouldn't be rushed into making a decision regarding aborting. I'd read reporting the situation
