28 week blood results

Hey,

So I know none of you are going to be able to tell me an EXACT reason, but maybe some suggestions to help put my mind at rest?

I had my 28 MW appointment earlier this week, and full blood count taken. I received a call from a receptionist at my GP this morning who said I need to speak to a doctor about my results. However, I would need to book an appointment and they have no appointments available, I'd need to call back on 15th once they get their next load of appointment slots through (my GP are crap for appointments!). She said to contact the MW and see if I can get any news from her.

I have messaged her this morning, it's been read but not replied to yet.. and I'm sitting here worrying that somethings wrong!

What could it be? Something like low iron, and not some majorly bad issue? Surely they'd want to speak to me ASAP regardless of whether I had an appointment if it was something serious?

Just to add I had the GTT the other week and results from that came back okay, so don't think it could be anything to do with GD??

Try not to worry (easier said than done). I had similar at both my 28 week appointments and was told I had low iron both times - put on supplements. Try the midwife again later to see if she can offer some reassurance.

Are you in the UK? Are your results not on the BadgerNotes app?

Yes, I'm in the UK. I've not heard of BadgerNotes, not sure it's something used in my area but I'll download it and take a look. I've checked the NHS app but the results haven't been put on there :/

You’d know if your trust used badger notes.
it’s more than likely you need iron. She should have just got someone to inform you over the phone. Just speak to your midwife and she can sort it for you. Don’t text her though, she could be on a day off or busy.

Mummyme87 · 01/12/2023 13:10

Most likely iron level related, in that scenario you will need supplements. Could be low platelets or antibodies but less likely

Mummyme87 · 01/12/2023 13:11

If you have a phone number for community midwife give them a ring and leave a voicemail with your details and the concern

Pollywoddles · 01/12/2023 13:14

Iron or B12 I’d say.

GreatGateauxsby · 01/12/2023 13:15

If it's GD they tell you pretty much immediately

I had this and it was low vitamin D.
If I had to guess it's likely to be iron calcium magnesium or vit d is a touch low.
Easy to say and hard to do but don't worry. If it was urgent they would have been in touch pretty promptly

I have a growth scan next week so if I've not heard back from the midwife by then, I'll pop into the maternity unit and see if they can see anything.

Thanks everyone

My very uneducated guess would be iron levels. Or maybe GD

GH9687 · 01/12/2023 15:59

If you ring your hospital/maternity unit they'll be able to tell you over the phone what the results of your blood test were rather than waiting. Usually it's just iron, if it was anything more sinister I'd imagine the hospital would have called already.

ChickpeaPie · 04/12/2023 10:47

She had full blood count taken. This doesn’t not tell you anything about vitamin d, calcium, magnesium, or gestational diabetes.
The things they will be looking at are haemoglobin and platelets.

One of the forms weren't filled out correctly so the sample was rejected, they just needed me to re-do one of the tests. Panic over!
