6 weeks pregnant and tooth infection.

I've been to the dentist today and have a bad tooth infection and started antibiotics. Looking online there seems to be a stigma around this and risk of misscarriage? Anyone had tooth infections in pregnancy is it common?

Not experienced it myself but I know tooth problems are common in pregnancy.

Sorry maybe I worded it wrong. I'm not worried about the antibiotics causing miscarriage I'm worried about the infection causing a loss or issues with baby

I had a tooth infection when pregnant with DD1. It was in the final trimester and I had antibiotics and then treatment on the tooth after she was born. Everything was fine with her x

Ah I see. Well you're getting treatment for the tooth infection so that should mean chances of it causing a problem are a lot less

Hey. I know the post is a little older but I have the same thing. I’m 5 weeks and I’ve had terrible pain in my wisdom tooth. Went to dentist today and they said it’s infected and I am on amoxicillin. I’m worried too, even about the antibiotic. Could you possibly let me know how you are after your infection to put my mind at ease!? X

@Aliceee3 just wanted to let you no I had a tooth abscess at 30 weeks my face was so swollen !!! I was put on amoxicillin and I just sat with an ice pack to my face !! All was fine infection cleared up after 4 days and had tooth removed after baby was born !!! All was fine x

Honestly cannot thank you enough for this message. It’s been awful. I’m still sat with an ice pack on my face and it’s agony. The amoxicillin are starting to work a bit but I have been so worried. Did you take paracetamol??? Xx

@Aliceee3 yes I took paracetamol. Honestly it was so bad my face was so swollen I couldn't even smile the dentist told me as long as the swelling don't travel up to my eye then I'll be fine.. he was right I was fine .. I was scared I would get sepsis from it he told me he sees a lot of pregnant patients with tooth abscess x

Oh that sounds horrible! Mine is similar, I can’t chew and I’m having to blend foods to get the food into me as I’m scared about the baby. My jaw is so painful and swollen. My biggest fear was sepsis too and I’m now relieved that I’m on the amoxicillin!! Thank you so much.

I was absolutely fine I'm 21 weeks now. I ended up with 3 infections before having a root canal!
