Lack of circulation in areolas

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this.

I have large breasts and they've obviously gotten even larger during pregnancy. I constantly have to wear sports bras for support and never wear underwires. I've had some dry skin on my breasts during my pregnancy and so I try to forgo the bra and let them breathe a bit during the night.

This however is causing a new problem, I'm waking up with sore, hard, swollen white and cold areolas. It doesn't affect the nipples at all, only the areola.

I've read up on nipple vasospasm but everything I've seen and read only discusses this actual nipple being affected. I've not found anything that relates to the issues I'm having.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post photos but I'll see if it allows.

Thanks in advance x 😊

I haven’t. But I think you need to see your doctor

What are your fingers and toes like? I have Raynaud’s and my extremities go white, then purple and burning! Raynaud’s can also affect the nipples, definitely warrants a GP visit.

Ooh OP, that looks very uncomfortable. I suffered with reynauds in my nipples when breastfeeding. It was awful.

Second time I googled the life out of it, found something me info & asked for a course of Nifedepine(?) which solved it completely. Thank god.

it was safe when breastfeeding, so ask your Dr if you could take it while pregnant. Lifesaver.

Thank you. I've not had any issues with my fingers or toes. My friend has raynaud's and it does remind me of her fingers. It's all just a bit strange. I'll def be making a gp appointment soon. 😊
