Gum Disease and Pregnancy

I’m 30 weeks pregnant and was told today I have signs of active gum disease. Booked into cleaning on the 3rd of Jan at which time dentist will grade the pockets.

Ive however read that gum disease can increase risks of still birth and pre eclampsia.

Has anyone on here had gum disease while pregnant and can calm me down? I have anxiety so my head goes everywhere with this kind of thing

Sorry can't give any advice but following as I'm early pregnancy and have previously been diagnosed with gum disease and have lots of gum issues

Hmm. My husband is a gum specialist so I'll ask him but I don't think that's true. Gum disease is very very common in pregnancy

@princefamilypaper I did think it was probably pretty common in pregnancy because of the free dental care in pregnancy and knowing it can wreak havoc on teeth and gums. I’ve had bleeding gums in my previous two pregnancies so didn’t think much of this but dentist has said it’s gum disease which it wasn’t before.

Thank you very much!

I’ve had bleeding gums for a few years now and now I’m 30 weeks pregnant with my first and had it a lot more during pregnancy. Following to see what the advice is. I’ve been to a dentist for a clean and they just advised continuing to brush, floss and use mouth wash. I think gum disease is genetic in my family and none of my sisters have had issues with their pregnancies because of it so hoping that’s the case.
