Wondering if anyone has had a blighted ovum
Did you have any symptoms
I've been so worried I'm going to have another miscarriage usually have them at 4 weeks. I'm currently 6 but I had severe cramping after stopping my progesterone 2 w eeks ago ans ever since just have no pregnancy symtpms at all. I just don't feel pregnant. Tests are still positive but I've heard hcg will still keep climbing even if you've got a blighted ovum

I had brown spotting at six weeks and my nausea and sore boobs went away. I also had stalled lines on my pregnancy tests at 12 and 14dpo. The lines stayed the same tone of pink then suddenly they started getting darker at 16dpo. I'd suspected something was wrong from that moment.

I had a blighted ovum which wasn't discovered until my 12 week scan. I had very few pregnancy symptoms, other than the missed period and positive test, but at the time I didn't think it was unusual for me as my first pregnancy (successful, carried to term etc) had been the same.

At my scan they found the empty sac. I had to go back a week later for a further scan to confirm either the MMC or to see if anything had developed, and only after that second scan, when it confirmed the blighted ovum and I booked in for surgical management a few days later, did I start to bleed.

@TheBirdintheCave do you know is it always accompanied by spotting / bleeding ? I haven't had any bleeding but just something dosent feel right to me. With my other losses I always bleed 1-2 days after period was due.
Gp told me cramping shouldn't be severe and when I googled it , it said it could be a symptom of blighted ovum.
Do you think my test lines look odd? I know hcg doubles every 48 hrs but I had days that I had no progression .

@MissKH84 It's a hard one because no progression was always bad for me (both times it happened) but I've seen other people post stalled tests on here and it's all been ok, so it's not necessarily a bad thing.

And as I've only had one blighted ovum (others were MMC and chemical) I can't comment on if you always get bleeding with it.

Out of interest, why did they have you stop the progesterone? This time I've been on it since 3dpo and am now nearly 16 weeks and am still taking it.

I had a fresh ivf cycle and was only offered progesterone support from retrieval until 9th Nov and after that they stopped it. I've practically had to beg the consultant for progesterone giving my history and they've agreed I can purchase it privately. In past I paid for private test and it came back low. I'm hoping to get my meds at weekend but I suppose I'm worried that I've already gone 2 weeks now without it. My gp won't do 48hr bloods. My gp did say cramping shouldn't be severe which is what mine was. Mine was way more painful than period pain
and now my bloating has gone and I'm not tired anymore. Something just dosent feel right to me and hasn't for the past week. My other loses were immediate and test lines decreased within 1 week and period would start few days late.
This time I've had progression but I just feel the same way as I did then. With them I had bloating and tiredness that went away. I've paid for a private scan but it's 2 weeks away. I just feel like im going to go insane until then

Hi OP,
With my blighted ovum I had a light bleed for a few hours at 6 1/2 weeks which caused me to go get an early scan where it was diagnosed. I had very few symptoms also, but I wouldn’t go on that as I’m currently ten weeks with another pregnancy (all good so far scan wise) and my nausea didn’t kick in till 8 1/2 weeks this time so felt 100% normal until very recently.

hope you are okay and just worrying for nothing x

CMG92 · 22/11/2023 17:56

Hi I had a blighted ovum end of may, I was 8weeks and had the most horrendous nausea 24hrs a day, I had some red bleeding 2days before I went for a scan privately as dr said as there was no cramping it was normal but I knew deep down something wasn’t right. I was also shivering and felt like I had flu. I had a previous miscarriage at 6weeks with no symptoms other than brown discharge.
im currently 4w 5days so trying to stay positive but very hard for me to relax.
good luck op

@LexIvy88 congratulations. I've been concerned about a blighted ovum too as I have zero symptoms and 6+4. Not even any bloating nothing . It's nice to know you can have no symptoms

TheBirdintheCave · 23/11/2023 09:14

@MissKH84 Your clinic sound rubbish! I can't believe they stopped the progesterone that early given your history and aren't offering you a viability scan as part of your package.
