Worried about listeria - cheddar cheese

Last night my partner made a pasta bake with cheese, the cheese was cooked and hot under the grill.

Today I went to make myself some cheese on toast for lunch and I noticed it smelt slightly ( not sure if it’s sensitive pregnancy nose )

I checked the date and it doesn’t go off until 19/01/2024!!!!!

I’m worried about listeria. I had it hot ( would this make a difference )

My understanding it is more common in soft cheeses, pates, pre made salads etc and things with unpasteurised milk.

As long as the cheese had been stored appropriately and was in date I wouldn't worry, just educate yourself on symptoms and then contact GP or midwife if you are at all concerned

It’s fine hot or cold. Hard cheeses are fine in pregnancy and a good source of calcium.

You cannot see, smell or taste listeria, so the smell has no bearing on this.

As the above people said, it's fine. Hard cheese are generally safe and temps above 74 C kill it so you're doubly fine. :)

I think it's just pregnancy nose OP. Cheddar is fine.

Can I ask why you think I need to 'get over myself'- what a utterly rude and belittling comment over someone's anxiety.
