Antiperspirant/aluminium. Is this a thing?

I'm about 16 weeks and suddenly wondered if the antiperspirant I use is safe (never heard anyone say otherwise) so I googled and apparently aluminium antiperspirants and deodorants(which this one has on the ingredients) are bad? However i can't find any nhs advice on this, its only random websites I use this daily and worry it might have done something, has anyone switched theirs? Or is it fine and I can carry on using it? Colour me confused....

I'm ridiculously risk adverse and basically removed all toxins I could in my last pregnancy, including switching to a natural deodorant. Not sure it's necessary, but it made me feel better!

The bigger thing for me was actually aspartame, which is in SO many drinks. I think that's been linked to autism now as well as generally being really bad for you. Now pregnant with #2 and I've removed aspartame, but not switched deodorants yet. I'm no expert though, I'm just doing what feel right for me, which is ultimately using/eating natural and unprocessed stuff as much as possible and accepting I won't be perfect 🙂

Thanks, yeah I read a bit on aspartame and as I generally don't drink diet drinks am not too concerned about that- I maybe have a coke zero once every two weeks and can live with that. The Deodorant thing is really as I've used it every day for the whole first trimester and am now worried that I've poisoned the baby. But I sort of imagine that if it was really risky someone at some point would have said something? Or at least the NHS would have some guidance on it? And I've found nothing...

Bumping. I'm assuming there are others out there who have used normal antiperspirants all the way through and don't have mutant/unwell kids? (Please say yes)

Yes used various common brands of deo throughout my pregnancy, and have one healthy happy toddler!

Wild deodorant is natural if you wanted to give that a try
I use it and it's really good.

Best advice I can give is to stay off google. If you look hard enough there will be something telling you everything is dangerous. Save yourself the stress, stick to nhs guidelines and don’t google

bettynutkins · 21/11/2023 14:49

Yes all fine here and same with all my friends etc.

Weirdly, I have just moved to a natural deodorant though due to the aluminium etc. Wild is fantastic.

AnnaMagnani · 21/11/2023 14:57

Some people get itching from the aluminium andso need to swap - looking at you DH with your sensitive armpits.

Otherwise I have put it down as 'guff you read on the internet'

dementedpixie · 21/11/2023 15:17

I need the aluminium as its the only thing that controls my sweating. There is apparently no link to cancer if that's what your issue is.

dementedpixie · 21/11/2023 15:18

And I've never used natural deodorants and have 2 healthy children. It's full on antiperspirant for me!
