Is this HCG low? Have I miscarried?

I am 5W3D.

I had a blood test and scan yesterday. The scan didn’t show anything up and my bloods came back at 529 HCG and 33 progesterone.

is that HCG level too low? Given the lack of anything visible on the scan does this mean I’ve miscarried? More blood tests later this week but am freaking out and can think of nothing else!

The HCG is in the right range, I believe.
The most important bit is how it rises. So the repeat level 48hours after the first will tell you more than the absolute value.

Fingers crossed for good news

Not sure about hcg (doctor should be able to tell you) but 5 weeks is almost certainly too early to see anything on a scan

Thanks v much guys.

I feel like there is so much conflicting information out there on what HCG levels you should expect at this stage. I wish I had a fast forward button to find out asap!

I think one of the main reasons I am freaking out is because we have been trying for so long and I still don't have any symptoms.

If only this whole baby making malarky was much easier!

@EllieN17 I’m 5w 1 day today and my HCG was 1,063, 2 days earlier was 652, and 2 days before that 373. Was worried mine hasn’t doubled from Sat- today but nurse said seemed ok. Also had a scan on Saturday so that would have been 4w 6 days and they saw a sac, thick lining but nothing else. I’m new to all this too but apparently all is normal. Main thing is your HCG increasing is what I’m gathering ( doubling ) although mines more like 63% increase than double on last one. Wishing you healthy pregnancy xx

EllieN17 · 20/11/2023 20:59

@Thenatcheshire Thanks so much for replying. Sounds like yours is all heading the right way!

It seems that my HCG is generally much lower than people like yours. That and the lack of anything on the scan yesterday makes me think that I should expect the worst and if anything good comes out of this be pleasantly surprised.

@EllieN17 Honestly don’t think that, mines low compared to others. Higher than others. And I’ve read so many stories where people’s were low and went on to have healthy babies. Everyone is different and yours is still in the range. I’d say main thing is get it done every 2 days this week if you can and check you’re getting a decent progression. I keep comparing myself to everyone else and it makes me feel bad a lot of the time and we need to not do that. Sorry if my message made you feel like that xx

Thenatcheshire · 20/11/2023 21:08

@EllieN17 Also are you definitely 5+3? Thought I was miscarrying this time last week, had a scan, nurse made me feel like I was because no sac, but it just turned out I was earlier than I thought ( by a week) n that explained why no sac, low HCG. I got myself in such a state for nothing when they said no sac. I’m still by no means ‘ out of the woods’ but I’m deciding to be positive xx

The individual values are meaningless. You need to have them repeated again after 48hrs to check how they're increasing. For example, I had an HCG level of approx 500 at nearly 6 weeks. The consultant thought it was a bit low, best to re check. When we did it was 78 and I miscarried naturally about 2 days later.

EllieN17 · 20/11/2023 21:55

I think I must be?! Didn’t use OPK this month but had egg white discharge on 28 October. Had sex on 27 and 29 October and not since (soz tmi there 😂)

fingers crossed I get a surprise sack like you! Really hope your next scan shows up what you are hoping for

I’m really sorry for your loss. It’s so tough having a miscarriage regardless of what stage of pregnancy.

really hope you get your rainbow baby soon x

@EllieN17 remember sperm can hang around longer than you realise, so could have fertilised the egg later than you think. Honestly don’t be dismayed. Keep me updated x

EllieN17 · 21/11/2023 20:54

Got HCG levels back today - up to 1076 but still a pregnancy of unknown location.

More HCGs on Thursday and if they go up again, another scan on Friday.

The whole thing is bloody exhausting!

@EllieN17 that’s a great increase babe. They’re gonna go up. Let us know how you get on. Positivity and baby dust ✨✨

EllieN17 · 21/11/2023 21:07

Thank you so so much. Fingers crossed for Thursday bloods! x

Ah good news on the increase! Fingers crossed something will now show on the scan, as HCG levels usually have to be a certain level before you can see baby. I hope it all works out for you. I was super lucky after my miscarriage and fell pregnant again the next month. Out little rainbow is now 15 months old and sleeping next to me.

EllieN17 · 22/11/2023 07:36

I love hearing positive stories like this! Thank you for sharing x

From experience here of having multiple miscarriages im going to be honest here and say that your numbers and scan results don't sound positive I'm sorry. I'm not saying that to scare you at all but that level hcg is very low for 5 weeks 3 days and at that point a scan should show a sac at the very least. If you aren't certain on your ovulation date however then that may change things x
