Extreme cramping every night

Hi everyone,

It's my first pregnancy, I'm 5 weeks. For the last 5 nights I have woken up with extreme period like cramping. The pain is so severe I have been to a and e twice. There has been no blood so they won't give me a scan. Last night I went for a private scan, baby has implanted in the correct location (a huge relief). I keep getting told that implantation cramps are normal, but this is excruciating. They only happen once a day, always at 2:30-3am. Is it normal? How many more nights can I expect this to go on for? Has anyone else experienced this?

Thank you xx

Hi, I’m currently in same boat! 5+3 today and I had horrific cramps which they picked last couple of evenings. It actually feels like AF will show up any time!
went for an early scan today, we’ve seen 2 sacs in which one of them was a small heamatoma. Dr assured me that cramps and slight bleeding will be normal at this stage.
I can’t say I’m much relieved tbh.

wish you a happy easy and healthy pregnancy🩵

Wishing you both all the best. Sorry you're going through this.

Cramps are normal, it's not typically excruciating, but I've certainly heard of people having extreme pain and all turning out well.

Only advice I have is I was told dehydration makes the cramps worse and you're often dehydrated at night so it's a good idea to drink more than you may think you need. Twelve glasses of water a day or more, definitely a glass before sleeping.

Omg I had these !!!! I panicked! It’s totally normal apparently! Mine were so severe during the day and came on in waves. Agonising. But it’s a good sign. Sounds like strong pregnancy. Also, I had a girl!

Thanks everyone, last night I took paracetamol and drank a pint of water before bed to keep me hydrated and I didnt get any excruciating cramping. Only small twinges. Thank you for the advice!
