40 and pregnant

I’ve recently found out I’m pregnant…very early (4 weeks ish). It’s my third pregnancy but first in ten years. I keep
seeing responses on here saying over 40s need progesterone? Is this something I need to contact my gp about?

I found my gp utterly useless . I was told they don't prescribe progesterone.
It's usually prescribed through EPU or private clinics. Epu won't prescribe it unless youve a history of miscarriages.
I'm currently 5 weeks 5 days , 38 and went to my gp regarding my progesterone
I had ivf and have had a previous loss. I also was told I may be progesterone supplementation before after a test I paid for privately came back low. Gp refused point blank . I've had to go pay for it from my fertility clinic. I've also paid for a private blood test to check my progesterone

I never heard that and I had a baby at 40 just a few years ago. Why would you need it just because you're 40?

CCrowe · 19/11/2023 19:02

Progesterone is generally offered for bleeding and history of multiple miscarriages, not for age. I'm 40 and 17 weeks pregnant and have not been offered it.

Good luck with your pregnancy!

I've always heard that's for a history of miscarriages. I had a baby at 40 and was high risk for other issues and didn't take it.

Mrs777 · 27/11/2023 11:02

Same here but a 13 year gap 😳 it’s all very scary, congrats to you ✨

I was never told that and I had babies at 41 and 43. I did get extra scans as I was a 'geriatric mother'!!

Hi everyone. First time poster. So I found out yesterday I'm approx 5 weeks and 5 days pregnant. Total shock and was a drunken night with a friend of a very long time. Anyways no judgement please I'm ashamed myself. I've told him and basically he has said he doesn't think he can be involved. I have a 21yr old so I'd be totally starting from scratch. I don't know what to do. I'm confused and scared. I also have anxiety so know I'll need to see GP re meds. Do I continue or do I abort? Either way it's going to be tough. Thanks for reading x

Mrs777 · 01/12/2023 19:32

Hi

Absolutely no judgement here at all, I also have a 21 year old so I can imagine how you feel. It’s very terrifying but here I am. I’m going to be hopefully things work out fine. The decision is yours have you got good support to discuss this with.

777 xx

Pregnant40andsingle · 01/12/2023 22:41

@Mrs777 yeah I've got a lot of support. I have only told my sister, best friend and daughter. I just do not know what to do. Truthfully If they could knock me out and deliver the baby I'd be more than happy. It's the thought of labour and the pain especially the crowning part and the ring of fire xx

Mrs777 · 02/12/2023 06:10

Yes you never forget that do you, small price to pay for such a blessing though, I’m glad you’ve got lots of support.

Thank you. Just so confused right now xx
