False positive on dip stick pregnancy test?

Hi all,

I bought some cheap amazon ultra sensitive pregnancy tests, they say they’re the same sensitivity as clear blue. I’m currently 10dpo and 4 days away from my expected period.

I did a test last night when they were delivered after holding my urine in for around 6 hours. I urinated directly onto the stick and a positive reading came up straight away. I then took a second test using a cup and dipping after holding my urine in for around 2 hours and got a negative. Tested again with first morning urine using a cup and again was negative.

Will urinating directly onto the test cause an instant false positive? Photo of positive attached.

I think they all say that the results are to be discarded if you don’t follow the instructions.

Doing it the right way was negative and that’s the result you should go with. Sorry OP, you’re not out yet though.

Thanks for replying. I’ve run a new test under some water to see if it was the excess liquid that caused the false positive but the test didn’t even register a reading, which indicates to me that it wouldn’t have been the amount of liquid on the test being the issue. As you can imagine I’m feeling totally confused and really gutted if it is a false positive! Will keep testing with first morning urine over the next few days. Thanks again for replying.

What I would say is a bit odd is that’s a very strong positive line if you’re only 10DPO. At this stage it would usually only be a faint line as HCG levels are still too low to show up a dark line. You wouldn’t normally get a strong solid line until after missed period.

But you never know, all you can do is test again tomorrow. I didn’t get a positive until 11DPO and it was very very very faint.

Also, if it’s really driving you crazy - go and get a digital early response test as then it just tells you in writing to save the tedious staring at lines!

13DPO, can anyone see the teeniest line or am I going mad?!

I’m sorry but I can’t see a line :( my eyes aren’t the best though and I hope it is there 🤞🏼
I know how impossible it is when you’re testing & wanting to see a positive 😞 and I’m so sorry if you did get a false positive too, that just makes it all the more difficult doesn’t it.

I’ll keep everything crossed that you do get a true, solid, positive line over the next few days 🤞🏼
