Booking a holiday whilst pregnant

Hi everyone

I'm currently 11 weeks pregnant and DH and I want to book a holiday for 2025, baby would be just about turning 1 when we go. It's a hotel that we know and love but it sells out so quickly, it's only just come up to book and only 3 rooms left for when we want to go already.

I was just wondering what the right thing to do is when we book it - should I include the baby or not? If I add them now it's not making a difference to the price but I've heard horror stories about being charged a fortune to add a baby to a booking, even though they will barely be eating or need a seat on the plane! And just sleeping in a cot rather than an actual bed. But I also don't have a name or date of birth to enter yet either.

Has anyone else booked a holiday for when baby will be here before, and if so how did you do it, include them when you booked or added them later?

I’m almost certain you don’t need to enter their name and DoB until nearer your travel time when you enter passport information.

Why not just book direct with the hotel and book flights separately

@Afteropening I can't book that far in advance with them unfortunately, and when I've looked to do that with other stays in the past it always seems to work out more expensive, also DH prefers to book a package so it's ATOL protected.

I believe you can book it as Baby Surname then add details after birth.

What is the airline?

OP who is it with? Most airlines have a policy that you book as “baby surname” with a dob close to due date and can change the name/date once known (eg I’ve done this for flights with BA in February, and similar with Ryanair and EasyJet). But each airline has slightly different requirements. Can you use their chat function and ask them?

I called TUI and they said it was fine to book, they did something their end to book baby's seat etc and then once baby is born I ring up with all the details
