Swollen outer labia 20 weeks pregnant

Hi! I'm 20 weeks pregnant and for the last two days I have painfull/swollen outer labia with some small drops of blood on the toilet paper when I dab my labia. Its almost like I've nicked myself shaving (but I haven't shaved).

I had two gyno exams this week, two days apart and both doctors checked my cervix with their finger. The first one was done on wednesday, and since they didn't do an anatomy scan, I booked another on friday. The friday anatomy scan checked my cervix with a finger and then also with a vaginal probe.
There wasn't any discomfort after either of these scans, and my "sore" labia problems started on saturday afternoon.

Now I am unsure if I should attribute it to some mechanical injuries from the scans - cervical check, or I could be having an ongoing infection?

I'm in between changing doctors for monitoring the pregnancy and my next checkup is in ten days.

Don't know should I try to contact the doctors on monday, or leave it for a few days to see if the symptoms go away?

The super small blood spots are from my labia not from my cervix - I've checked with a paper.

I wouldn't be worried if I wasn't pregnant, but I know that untreated BV often leads to premature birth...

Did anybody have some outer labia "injuries" after vaginal exams?
Did anybody have symptoms of BV thar included only sore outer labia with some super small blood spots? My discharge is fine, it doesn't hurt when I pee and my BV smears were all clear at 13 weeks

Could it be thrush? X

Hormones during pregnancy can often lead to extremely dry skin/vagina which is then very easy to damage so it might be as simple as that.

Bartholin cyst? Could happened after an internal exam which wasn't as gentle as it could be

beetr00 · 12/11/2023 16:44

Gosh! are internals the norm now? sorry I know that doesn't answer your actual question 💐

Will I have internal examinations?

It is unlikely you will have an internal examination (inside your vagina) until you go into labour unless there is a reason for it

I don't think so.. it's not itchy, and there is no vaginal discharge.. but other than that, it could be.. I would rather have trush then BV :)

Hmm, maybe. Its in the right spot, but its not that swelled up (like a ball). And I feel it on both sides. But I'll keep track, and if it grows it could be it. Don't know about the super small bleeding though..

I think not. I'm "marked" as a high risk pregnancy so they checked my cervix too. Only I got unlucky that I had both exams two days apart. The rest of the exam was done abdominally

I don't have a clue, but if you're worried I would most definitely seek advice from a midwife

I had swollen labia with both pregnancies from about the same time. No bleeding though. It went back to normal after I had the baby both times. Think it’s all the extra pressure down there. I had no thrush or anything.

Thanks for this. I'm very sure the small spots of blood aren't coming from inside my vagina, that they are on the outer parts. I'll probabl check with my doctor, its not worth the stress
