Weirdest thing you ate in pregnancy?

I can’t bear the thought of most food at the moment (7weeks) and the thought of most food is making me feel sick. Needs must to get some food into me. So I just had stuffing and gravy almost like a gravy soup with chunks of stuffing. DH was appalled! It was lovely and don’t make me feel sick!

What’s the strangest thing you had when pregnant? Make me feel less weird!!

Bath sponges.

IHeartGeneHunt · 09/11/2023 16:33

Farley's Rusks and black tea at first and then just Weetabix for ages, then Asda plain ham sandwiches (couldn't make my own because touching the ham made me sick!)

I get this about the ham. I haven’t touched any meat 😂

Not that weird but similar to your OP I made stuffing and cauliflower cheese and ate that the other day. Also feel so sick and can't bare the thought of most food.

spiderlight · 09/11/2023 16:39

Cardboard was weirdest thing. I also ate lots of raw turnip and swede.

Cauliflower cheese or any cauliflower in general I’m loving!

I hate egg mayonnaise every single pregnancy I crave it in the first 12 weeks!

Lilclover · 09/11/2023 16:42

Not weird as such but Ice cream morning, noon and night. 2 days before my waters broke I was lining up at a well known local ice cream place at 9.30am begging them to open (they didn’t start serving ice cream until 12 lol)

Crisp sandwhiches (although not outright weird or strange) were a staple in my diet. Always craved salty foods.

I had very strong pica due to low iron. I was very VERY drawn to smells of petrol, white spirits, alcohol sanitiser etc! Any kind of solvent! Even strong smelling rubber (door mats etc) - YUM!

First pregnancy - after living off nothing but cream crackers for three months it was then pickles, pickled onions, raw onions, anything vinegary.

Second pregnancy - milk by the gallon, but it had to be ice cold. And I hate milk normally.

Third pregnancy - spinach by the boatload. Then spinach and hot sauce and anything salty. Usually mixed together. And then at the end of my pregnancy anything that would probably kill me, I loved the smell of bleach, petrol, acrylic, nail varnish remover - had to physically stop myself from drinking it.

OldTinHat · 09/11/2023 16:50

I can't stand milk. DC1, winter baby, I couldn't stop eating milky porridge. DC2, summer baby, it was angel delight by the gallon.

WhamBamThankU · 09/11/2023 16:50

With my third pregnancy I went through cheesy mash, lilt, vegetables (boiled plain) and then a chocolate muffin with fresh whipped cream topped with loads of salt 🤣

Azandme · 09/11/2023 16:50

Extra mature Cheddar and piccalilli toasties.

Tried one after dd was born - it was VILE.

Did have a non toasted one yesterday though. It was lovely. Hot piccalilli mixed with melted cheese is not.

The last part was 💯 me...so bizarre and such an insatiable desire to inhale/drink! Had with both pregnancies. Moreso with 2nd.

Tuna and cheese panninis. Then ice. ALL the ice.

Yeah! I think it gave me a bit of a sore tummy! Tmi but I'm SO gassy with this pregnancy. This is my first pregnancy and it's hard isn't it!!

Lilclover · 09/11/2023 20:34

Oh and ice. I had low iron too and was obsessed with ice. Used to go into the kitchen and cut it up and eat in out of a bowl like it was popcorn lol

SiobhanSharpe · 19/11/2023 07:47

Watercress, a whole packet every day. Bloody loved it.
Also shed-loads of ice, the crunch was so satisfying.

Bath sponges.

On this note, clean wet flannels. Chewing them was lovely.

FoleyHuck · 19/11/2023 07:59

Nothing too strange but I've had a LOT of cheese and coleslaw sandwiches as the need for variety has deserted me. A few McDonalds too as we were away in Asia when I was 6-7 weeks and at that point I was struggling with a combo of queasiness + ravenous hunger and really needed something completely familiar tasting.

I think the oddest thing for me, but extremely convenient, is that I don't even miss wine.

I love red wine and rare was the evening I didn't fancy a glass (didn't always have one mind!) but for the last 12 weeks it's just dropped off my radar entirely. Smelled DH's glass the other day and nothing, no spark.
