Any sonographers/midwives? Are you allowed to do this?

I think my sonographer accidentally told me my baby was a girl at a late scan (she called the baby a girl!)

However she immediately corrected herself and then said, I really didn't give anything away. Then she came back later with the consultant and was like - I just want to say that I didn't see the gender and I didn't reveal anything.

Obviously I'm now wildly second guessing her now.

In your opinion, would it be OK for you to come back and reassure the mum if you actually had cocked up?

For those who may want to hijack this thread and point out that I'm being ungrateful and precious, ok. But I'm still interested to know professionals' opinions.

My sonographer referred to my baby as a boy the full time. The screen was broken so I couldn’t tell what she was actually looking at. She then giggled and asked if I would like to know the gender. I don’t think she even listened to my answer before telling me it’s not 100% certain and that she could be wrong and she always calls the baby a boy etc.

I think if you specified that you didn’t want to know then the sonographer has probably panicked and got the consultant to be there whilst she confirms she doesn’t know the gender. I imagine she’s done this so she doesn’t get into trouble.

If you’re upset then I’d maybe mention with your midwife as I had a problem in a scan and the midwife was great for being a go between and sorting it all.

You didn't know what the sex is and you still don't know what the sex is. Let's face it - it's only a choice of 2 anyway! It doesn't matter what any of us say as you'll still be second guessing her, it's the nature of the pregnant brain!!

Thank you. I'm assuming you had a boy?

I don't mind either way but the second guessing is sending me a bit loopy

@plsbequiet nope I had a girl! I was certain it was going to be a boy just based on all the traditional old wives tales.

I think you just try to put it behind you and keep focussed on it being a healthy baby and hopefully not too long until you find out.

And she specifically said "boy" not just he/him? That's mad!

I do know that- just my pregnancy hormones going crazy.
