Brown discharge, how worried should I be?

I'm around 5w3d pregnant and I woke up this morning, went to the toilet and when I wiped there was brown discharge. I went to the toilet a second time and there was less but still there. Since then it's dwindled down to nothing other than when I just went to the toilet then and there was like a speck or two of browny red.

I had noticed by breast tenderness had gone too, last weekend my boobs were so sore and for the majority of this week they've been totally fine. I did have a banging headache this morning though and I have had a bit of nausea all day until about 5pm

I have my first midwife appointment Wednesday so I'll definitely mention it then but how worried should I be? Do I need to ring the EPU? I'm beside myself with worry at the minute!

Doesn't sound alarming yet. As well as brown discharge I had 2 gushes of red blood. Caused me lots of worry but my son was fine! He's 21 months now. Easier said than done, but try not to worry, unless it gets worse. Nobody ever found out why I bled, but it does happen to some of us!

@glasshalffull0 I'm so sorry you have this worry but a bit of brown discharge doesn't mean anything. There's a lot going on in there so it would be surprising if nothing was disturbed.

Plus miscarriages don't necessarily include bleeding anyway. I have had 2 successful pregnancies - one with bleeding one without and one miscarriage with no bleeding.

I'm afraid most EPUs only see people from 6 weeks and even then usually only if there is heavy bleeding and/or pain. There are exceptions of course.

I know how anxious a time those early weeks can be but I have every hope that this is nothing to worry about xxx

I had brown spotting with my first pregnancy at that sort of time and red spotting in my second pregnancy. Both times I rang the EPU, just for reassurance really as I know it is quite common. The advice they gave me was not to worry unless it becomes heavy bleeding or is accompanied by cramps. First time I was told it was implantation bleeding and brown blood is old blood. Second time they said it was likely due to a graze on my cervix which can cause any colour spotting. It is very common and usually not cause for concern, as a pp said they probably won’t do anything at such an early stage but you could always ring the EPU to put your mind at rest - I definitely felt better after speaking to them both times.
