Pregnant at 45??

LegallyBrunette01 · 02/11/2023 17:42

Name changed for this, and need a bit of a handhold.

Currently have 3 DC (14, 12 & 7) with my DH. As the title says really, I think I might be pregnant, our family was complete and we were finished with having children, and I thought I was heading into menopause, being 45. Although my periods are still very regular, like every 28 days, however chances of being pregnant in your 40s are 5% and decrease yearly.

Last period 8th October - DH and I weren't too careful on Thursday 19th October (I know I know I should know better at my age) and I think I was ovulating that weekend, usual weird crampy pains I get around ovulation and EWCM. Now my boobs are tingly and sore, so I'm trying not to symptom spot, because when you are looking for a sign, every sign is a symptom of pregnancy and I'm trying to hold off testing until at least early next week if my period doesn't come on Sat / Sun

Oh wise mumsnetters what is the likelihood of being pregnant at my age, in reality??

You still have regular periods and had sex when you were ovulating. Yes, you could be pregnant. Why didn’t you get the MAP?

MadamVastra · 02/11/2023 17:49

well it happened to Victoria coren and she's older than you

take a test?

LegallyBrunette01 · 02/11/2023 18:01

I didn't get the MAP because it was 2 days later when I had the ovulation symptoms, and I thought 5% chance, I mean that is really low.

Take a test to put your mind at ease 😘

Ihaveawonderfulpartner · 02/11/2023 18:12

I became pregnant at 45 and went on to deliver a healthy baby boy so it definitely does happen. You need to take a test.

I know - you just know that the moment you take the test you end up coming on and then all the worry was for nothing 😅

It’s not a 5% chance across the board - that’s the average. For some women it’s almost impossible by then, but I expect that for others their fertility has hardly dipped at all.

So yeah, you absolutely could be pregnant.

Well exactly. Sorry, but not sure why you've even added a post here without testing first? Best of luck with whatever outcome you want.

Take a test!

YokoOnosBigHat · 02/11/2023 18:19

Get a first response. They've always told me early doors.

Isthisreasonable · 02/11/2023 18:19

I believed those stats at your age too. Now in my 60s with a teenager. My midwife said most of her increasing number of 40+ women had thought the same too.

And it was my first pregnancy to boot!

But not impossible

I guess I was just looking for anecdotes, like @Isthisreasonable but thought there also might be quite a few people with anecdotes of nahh, we weren't too careful in our 40s and it was absolutely fine.

You're only 45 with regular periods. It's not that hard to imagine it happening. Take a test 🤷‍♀️

Jeannie88 · 02/11/2023 18:35

Very possible, do a test xx

Stephy1024 · 02/11/2023 19:00

A lady had both of her children in her 40s. One at 41 other at 44. It's not the strangest thing.

Mailys · 03/11/2023 16:09

@LegallyBrunette01 Did you take a test? 🙂 So interested in this thread as have had friends that have been in a similar situation - with both outcomes!!

Gowlett · 03/11/2023 16:14

After I had my baby at 44, the doctor prescribed contraception at my 2 Week Check. She brought it up.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 03/11/2023 16:38

You need to take a test... all women in my family had babies in their 40s. All planned! And no problems conceiving! Ages range from 42-48. So it's totally possible you're pregnant.

Contraception is always discuss after a baby- regardless of age!

Uniquuue · 03/11/2023 17:34

I had a scare and was discussing it with my GP as in a can you believe this, thank god im not way, and she said they'd had two 46yo get pregnant naturally at her last practise

Cuppaand2biscuits · 03/11/2023 17:38

I know a few women who have had surprise pregnancies in their early 40's. I thought some woman actually had a boost in fertility around that age sort of the body giving it one last shot.
Or is that an old wives tale?

Jessforless · 03/11/2023 17:41

Did you take a test OP?

chachachachangesoolala · 03/11/2023 17:51

One of my best friends has a three month old. She's nearly 47. Her last child was conceived via IVF after years of trying. She had no idea she she could conceive naturally.
Anything is possible, OP!

Tambatamba · 03/11/2023 17:53

My Aunty had her youngest dd when she was 48.
