Whooping cough vaccine / 37 weeks

Hi all

I was asked by my midwife if I was looking to get the whooping cough vaccine at my last appt (36 weeks) and rang up the GP, however the next appt available is when i'll be 37+1 weeks.

I am kicking myself because it says everywhere the ideal time is up to 32 weeks and I should have researched myself instead of wait for the MW to ask me :( i have 1 dc already but somehow this slipped my mind to get vaccinated

I am now worried as not sure if it will do much for the baby. Does it take 2 weeks to build immunity? Did anyone else have it this late and be okay? I have read some women chose not to have it at all and decided to stay indoors until the baby was 8 weeks but that's not an option for me, I have to do the school run as well as family visiting

I have even tried to look for a pharmacy that does it but it's only Superdrugs who can and it's only 2 days earlier than my appt (they also can't guarantee stock and said it depends on the day) so i'm better off sticking with the appt with the Nurse but can't help but worry now

i had mine done late for a similar reason, just have it done as soon as you can, baby will still get some antibodies from you

It'll be okay. Just get it still x

Mime was at 35 weeks due to lack of appointments.

I figure at least there will be some immunity and if I BF there will be more

I didn't have it the second time as I couldn't get an apt. Midwife was fine with it and I wasn't told to stay in for 2 months. Midwife said guidance used to be that you were only offered with your first pregnancy anyway.

Thank you all for the reassurance! It's good to hear you had it later on as well. I am glad I got an appt atleast even though its at 37 weeks

@Enderunicorn that's really interesting to know! Makes me feel better about it too
