How common is brown discharge in the first trimester?
I have a feeling it is 50/50, can be nothing or can be a sign of a miscariage. Never had it in my previous pregnancies.
Did you have it and all ended up alright?

It is not much. Occasional. Not too dark. Just v light brownish. I'm having another private scan on Friday, trying to be ready for everything.

Hi I had this for three weeks from week 8-11 but initially had bright red blood like a light period. Then brown for a long time mixed with discharge sometimes, sometimes clots. Was put on progesterone due to previous miscarriage also and it did stop, currently 23 weeks pregnant.

I had that and everything was all right. I'm trying to remember the specifics as it was a while ago but I had a brown discharge and some light bleeding at around 10-12 weeks.
I was really worried due to past miscarriages but all was fine and he's now a strapping 18 year old. I had no bleeding with his brothers (one older, one younger) so I don't know why I did with him.
Sending strength as I know the worry is an awful thing!

I had this around 9/10 weeks and it turned out to be a SCH (not sure of the spelling but it’s a hematoma) which are apparently fairly common , so it’s worth asking them if they are checking this when you go for your private scan x

I had this around 8 weeks during my first pregnancy. I totally panicked and went to the doctor (I wasn’t in the uk at the time so system was different). They found a heart beat and no explanation for bleeding. My DD is 17 years old now. Fingers crossed for you.

Thank you so much everyone for your stories! Sounds reassuring. I hope all is fine with the baby.
We saw the heartbeat three weeks ago so I'm thinking if anything did go totally wrong it would be a bit more than this

I had a little bit of gloopy brown discharge at 11.5 weeks and turned out to be an MMC at 12 week scan. BUT... I think all of the responses you have had show that everybody is different and that any discharge or bleeding needs investigating but is far from always an issue. I have to also mention that we had not had any previous scans.

Longbarn5 · 02/11/2023 19:37

I also meant to say good luck and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy x

I had brown spotting at 6and then again at 8 weeks - I’ve had an EPU scan and a multiple private scans because of it - I’ve been reassured multiple times that brown spotting in pregnancy is more than common and happens way too often. My due date is tomorrow, all will be well😀

Thank you so much for all the kind words. I had a scan today. The baby has a nice heartbeat. All good. Nothing to worry about.
One stressful thing is that the moment I left the scan I felt smth and it was some bright red discharge. Very little but still. So spent the rest of the day in EPU. They prescribed progesterone but said that if the miscarriage is meant to happen it will happen. Don't totally agree with it but not much can be done. I was checked, the cervix is closed and that's the most important thing. Waiting for the 12 weeks scan.

I am sure all will be well OP! Xx

I've had brown discharge with all 4 of my pg, I also had quite heavy bleeding with 2 of them that meant I needed hospital stays . All healthy dc . No reason for the heavy bleeding was found . Good luck op, I'd say a healthy heart beat is a good sign

I think bleeding after a scan can be more common than we think, especially if there’s been repeat scans in a smallish time frame. Someone in my baby group had a huge bleed after her 12wk scan - to the extent she felt like she’s wet herself - was checked over and all ok and was told it’s happens a lot. Her little one is 2 now 😊
