28 weeks pregnant with baby number 3 and I’ve never experienced sciatica before. I’ve asked midwife but mainly just get the ‘gentle exercise and paracetamol’ advice which I’m doing already.
most days I am limping and some days I struggle to get out of bed :(

Ive also had 2 pregnancy massages which are lovely but don’t seem to help that much.
any miracle ideas - belts ? Creams? Will try anything!

thank you

Maternity support belt and one of those heat pads you stick on the outside of your clothes helped me!

Thank you I am looking at getting a belt. Did you get an under bump one or one that goes under and over? There seems to be a lot on the market!

push midwife for women’s health physio referral.
very often not actually sciatica and actually pelvic girdle pain radiating down the legs!

@Emma543 this is very interesting- hasn’t been mentioned at all but I just looked it up and seems like symptoms are similar . Mine is in one side too. I’ll ask as I’m seeing her Friday

I got an under bump one purely because it was cheap and I could pick it up at Argos straight away!

I did wonder about it being pgp vs sciatica too, but in both my pregnancies I had it for around 3 weeks around 28 weeks and then it literally disappeared - the baby each time must have been pressed up against my sciatic nerve I think. But those 3 weeks were both miserable and I could barely walk! So I have a lot of sympathy for you and hope it eases for you too 🤞

Thanks @Nestofcrowes i am 28 weeks so I’m hoping I’m like you and it doesn’t stick around for too long! Going to get a belt today :)

@Number3pending2024 hey, just wondering how you are getting on and if the maternity belt made any difference for you? I've had sudden sciatic pain the last few days and can barely walk, need a bit of hope here that it can get better!

Number3pending2024 · 12/11/2023 23:02

Hi! Belt helps I wear it for walking more than a few minutes. I got a pelvic health physio referral from my midwife and it was very quick. She has diagnosed PGP so I’ve got some hydrotherapy sessions with a physio coming up which I’m hoping will help! And stretches .

some days are worse than others but it’s manageable at the moment. I really hope you feel better soon!

@Number3pending2024 so glad to hear yours is getting a bit more manageable. I'll try and get myself a belt too tomorrow.

Hopefully for both of us the pain is only temporary, I'm only 27w and can't imagine doing this for another 13 weeks

Sorry people are suffering - don't know if its OK to use in pregnancy but if it is then my DD (lower spine fratures sitting on sciatic nerve) found the best pain relief wa voltarol suppositories.I think they are prescription only.

MimiArm · 12/11/2023 23:30

I had this when I was pregnant and found a video on YouTube that cured it! The relief lasted weeks and so every now and then I did the exercise again, just as and when needed.

Osteopathy has kept me moving!! Did physio in my last pregnancy so still use those suggestions but the osteo has been amazing for me for reducing pain this time around (and much cheaper too)
