Aspirin Daily?

Anyone else been advised to take aspirin daily to reduce risks of pre-eclampsia or low birth weight?
My other child was born at term on the 3rd centile so this seems to have raised some concerns for this pregnancy and I've been placed under consultant care by the hospital following my 12 week scan today.

Aspirin Daily?

Yes, I started at 14 weeks. First baby, growth currently bang in the middle.
From reading these boards it seems pretty common. Do you have concerns?

This is super common now. I had with my first pregnancy as i was high risk for preeclampsia. Pretty sure it worked as well because i stopped taking it at 37w and by the time i was 38w, i had developed pregnancy hypertension and DD made a speedy arrival. She was 0.4th centile (although at 2.5yrs has now caught up to around 75th).

Its supposed to be more effective if you take it right before bed.

I actually dont have to take it in this pregnancy but thats because some of my other risk factors have decreased - i guess they could change their mind at the 20 week scan if this baby appears to be dropping in growth.

I've been taking it since 16 weeks - I'm on 150mg daily due to high BMI. My first baby was bang on 50th centile so they weren't too concerned in that respect, just that a higher BMI can mean increased pre-eclampsia and IUGR risks which Aspirin helps to mitigate. The consultant I saw said that the advice is relatively new for a wider group of women, and she wouldn't be surprised if in the future even lower risk pregnancies are advised to take aspirin if possible.

Thanks for the replies, its put my mind at rest that this is becoming fairly common place. I feel extra reluctant to put medicines in my body at the moment and my son is now 11 so I feel aot of the guidelines have changed a lot from what I can remember.

Sa11yCinnamon · 01/11/2023 10:40

I'm expected to be told to do this at my booking appointment next week, as my sister was due to family history.

TheBirdintheCave · 01/11/2023 10:42

I'm on them now (or will be when I can hold of the 75mg stuff!).

RiderofRohan · 01/11/2023 10:54

I'm on it to reduce the risk of pre-eclampsia. Very common and safe.

newandconfused5 · 01/11/2023 11:00

Me! Low birth weight of first DD. Aspirin Not a thing when I had DD2 but given growth scans. She was born on 50th line. Aspirin offered for DC3 because of DD1.. he ended up being born on 98th line!

Whataretheodds · 01/11/2023 12:01

@TheBirdintheCave they price it higher! I cut the 300mg in half

TheBirdintheCave · 01/11/2023 12:03

@Whataretheodds I thought about that but panicked that I wouldn't be able to snap them correctly and the dose would be too low or high 😅

Whataretheodds · 01/11/2023 12:05

Just use a sharp knife - or your teeth - along the groove.

If you're v slightly up one day and v slightly down the next I can't imagine that will be an issue

FirstMondayInMay · 01/11/2023 12:28

I’ve been taking it since my booking appt at 10 weeks due to high BMI. No problems so far, baby weighing approx 4lbs at my 32 week scan
